Las Venturas + an Albuquerque based city for GTA 6

Everyone and their mother knows GTA 6 will be set in Vice City, but if they do change their minds and try to do another city, I would love for it to be set in Las Venturas. Las Venturas was always cooler to me than San Fierro in San Andreas because of its unique architecture and desert surrounding it. If they decide to make it this is how I would like the map to be.
Las Venturas: A city full of greed with casinos and fancy hotels.
Grand Canyon + hundreds of miles of open desert: A famous tourists locations and hundreds of miles of untouched desert where you can cook meth in or kill somebody without the rest of the world noticing.
An Albuquerque inspired city: A large city with a drug and gang problem, perfect for GTA. Also would be awesome if you are a breaking bad or better call saul fan.
Highway towns: Small towns with gas stations and motels dotted along the major highways.
Also another Idea: The map should not be an island instead if you drive too far a cut scene plays where you car breaks down and a towtruck tows it to the nearest Car shop.

On 2020/8/8 it all goes down. New Mexico United plays Phoenix Rising at Phoenix. Originally this match was to be played in Albuquerque but due real life issues, the match was moved to Casino Arizona Field.
In 2019 New Mexico United and Phoenix Rising played each other three times. The first encounter resulted in a 3-3 draw. The second encounter was a US Open Cup match, which resulted in a victory via penalties after the two sides played to a 2-2 draw. The third encounter resulted in a 2-2 draw at home.
If you have been keeping score, there has not been one victory within regulation time between these two clubs. And in those three matches, there has been something like 18 yellow cards between the two clubs. New Mexico United and Phoenix Rising don’t like each other very much.
Last season their supporters came into our house and among other activities, popped smoke in front of our supporters. Good times.

Smoke
It doesn’t help that Phoenix’s players seem have a hard time staying on their feet.

Phoenix is currently, after five matches played, in 2nd place of Group B with 10 points. Last week they played to a 3-1 victory over El Paso Locomotive. I would say their club is loaded with talent. Including Santi Moar, who signed with them after playing for United last season. Personally I won’t be negative about Moar for his poor employment decisions; unless he celebrates a goal against United. Once that happens, the gloves come off.
New Mexico United is on top of Group C with 10 points after five matches played. Last week they had a terrific 0-3 team win over OKC Energy. It is great to watch the players starting to click. Huge shout out to the best keeper in the league, Cody Mizell. Without him between the sticks, New Mexico would have a much harder time playing with such a high press.
I think that a good part of the success off the pitch for New Mexico United last season was in part due to the exciting, offensive style of soccer that Troy Lesesne had United playing. I’m glad to see this style continue in 2020. This club does not have a CDL, so they should not be attempting to park buses.
PRO has not posted the USL assignments for this weekend, so my snarky comments about who might be overseeing this match will have to wait. I just hope they have a good eye for floppy behavior.

Skinwalker stories from two men who grew up in the Zuni reservation just outside Gallup NM.

These are the stories told to me by my two best friends of 20 years. I'm gonna preface this by saying these two are some of the most honest people I've ever known, and it took them years before they'd speak to me about this stuff. Once I was able to convince them to tell me about this, the older of the 2 brothers broke down into tears and abruptly left about halfway through the first story. It's just too traumatic for him to relive, I felt bad for that and haven't asked him to speak about it since that day. His younger brother that I'm closer with provided the detail, as well as their cousin who carries a religious title that's essentially an enforcement position designated to deal with the presence of Skinwalkers and related threats. This is a really long post so buckle up.
I was told that the Zuni's are a bit different compared to other reservations in NM, specifically because when the U.S. government sanctioned land to all the native tribes, the Zuni's didn't work with the government. Anybody who's traveled through NM knows there's a casino on almost every reservation, the Zuni's do not have a casino because they refused to work with the Govt and specifically refused to provide information about their heritage and the land they live on. My Buddy told me the tribal elders taught him that the Zuni's are in that specific area because they're protecting secrets of the land. I'm gonna add in A couple details that pertain to the story, and I'll expand on that later. Apparently, my friend the younger brother was born with a split tongue (like a lizard) and slits in his pupils instead of being round. You're probably making the face I made when I was first told that, but keep in mind all of this is religious to the Zuni's. They're very serious about all of it, they do not allow non tribal members this knowledge nor do they allow the presence of non-Zuni's. You can be visit if invited, but would not be allowed to stay during certain times.
I'll start with the first story they shared when we were around 13yrs old, and is the first experience of many that is too much for my friend to relive. He said he was very young, and was woken up abruptly in the night to glass breaking. When he opened his eyes his dad already in his sons room motioned to him to stay where he is and be quiet while pointing a large revolver toward the kitchen where the window was broken. Not long after, his dad fired multiple shots, he then heard a screech so loud it hurt his ears along with a scuffle in the next room and saw a shadow on the wall that he said did not look or move anything like a person. Apparently whatever was in the house immediately leapt out the same window that was broken to get in. He said the adults gathered and left to find it shortly after, but was never told what they found, just that it was definitely a Skinwalker. The day after he broke down into tears talking about it, I went and saw him and was apologizing and surprisingly he said the shadow and screeching he saw scarred him and is ultimately why they left the reservation. I never asked him about it again.
Another instance that the older brother told me, was one that left me particularly intrigued, though I'm not sure why compared to some of the other stories. He said they were having some sort of celebratory feast one night, and my friend saw what he described as a very small person stealing their food while the adults weren't looking. He said it was around 1-2 feet tall, and when he saw it he immediately shouted to his dad and ALL the adults dropped what they were doing and immediately started chasing it trying to corner it. This went on for a while and during the commotion they realized there were multiple tiny beings, two of which were able to escape into the gutters. He said he remembers everybody trying to reach into the gutters and block them from getting away, but one was caught and he distinctly remembers his uncle holding it up high by the leg and he watched it scream in terror, and it sounded like a tiny human. Then they immediately tied it up and stuffed him into a cloth pouch and burned him alive over a fire. He said the way it screamed while burning terrified him because he could hear how much pain it was in. But they are human like, by the way he explained them they seemed like something that looks like lawn gnomes, he doesn't know if they're necessarily evil but they kill every single one they come across. Not sure why but that one really creeps me out.
The next I I remember, the 2 brothers were together somewhere out in the wilderness hunting rabbits just outside the reservation. They were walking home because the sun had just went down, but came across a barely standing shack. Being dumb kids with a pellet gun, they went inside and shortly after a rock hit the wall of the shack. So they immediately go outside and within seconds notice commotion in the vegetation about 30 feet away. They had one flashlight so they point it toward the movement, and a human looking figure stood up, faced them with it's head tilted to the side, described it as very very pale with facial features that were not human. He said "I don't know how to explain it man it just didn't look like a person." So upon seeing that they immediately took off running back home and as soon as they did they see coyotes just sitting alongside the trail, standing off to the side, but all were just staring at them with no fear of their presence, and followed them all the way back. They said they were told by the elders they being warned off. And the commotion in the grass was the Skinwalker changing form. They said they never went back to that area again, and the younger brother said he'd never been so terrified. I'm glad the younger brother told me about that story instead of his older brother.
The younger brother still today is able to better deal with harsh realities. He told me that him and a couple friends would play around this mountain and knew where the entrance to a cave was. They tried to go into the cave but not far from in the entrance got too small for him to fit and even his 10yr old torso wouldn't squeeze through the narrow opening. He said they were off to the side of the entrance hiding from another friend walking toward them, and noticed something moving very very fast going in and out of the cave entrance. He and his friends said they went back everyday for over a week and would watch them for hours, but couldn't ever see what exactly they were, but were astounded at the speed they moved at, but didn't understand how they were getting in and out as they were much bigger than him. He was forbidden from ever going back after the adults found out what he and his friends were up to.
As for their cousin that carries the title given to those who are there to deal with skin walkers, I ended up getting pretty close with him too since his cousins are like family to me and I picked his brain one night. He said they consider them a manifestation of pure evil. They're ruthless, and they know they're not supposed to be around the Zuni people, they're fully aware of their actions. If they find out a Skinwalker is near, they immediately hunt it down, catch it, and string it upside down over a fire and burn it alive til there's nothing left, Bones and all. During that process he said the sounds they make is like nothing you'd hear anywhere else. He said you can't kill them with bullets, and there's different levels to their abilities. They can affect you in a variety of ways but always in a negative fashion such as leaving you sick, or dead. If I remember correctly, there's a time every year where everybody but him and others with his title stay inside and lock the doors and block the windows, and he will then walk the town in specific clothing and chant specific words then hunt skin walkers with his peers. I didn't really understand, but it was implied that Skinwalkers are expected to be present around this time. But he spoke about it like it's something completely normal. I think,it's like a holiday, and during this week or so there's a period where the Skinwalkers arrive and that's the main reason they designate enforcers, that are trained to deal with them, and apparently never look the SW's in the eyes.
One last story I'm gonna share is not from the Zuni reservation, this is a story my uncle told me and takes place in a reservation outside Bernallio. A small city which is about 20min away from Albuquerque, but I don't remember the name of the reservation. So my uncle was a sniper in the air force and saw combat in Panama. After leaving the military he was a firearm instructor for APD (Albuquerque Police) then for Bernallio PD. One day he gets a call about a drunk guy acting strange at the base of a mountain. So he shows up, but doesn't see anyone there. So he gets out and starts looking around and at the base of the mountain he finds clothes neatly folded. As he turns around he's surprised by what he calls the biggest wolf he's ever seen in his life, about 20 feet away walking straight toward him. He said it was around 5 feet tall, and staring right in his eyes, so he immediately puts his hand on his holstered gun, but doesn't draw and starts walking backward toward his car while the Wolf continues toward him. Once he reached his unit he gets inside as fast as possible and when he shut the door it was now an inch away from his window. He said he had to look up at it while seated in his unit. He then makes a "sorry I'm leaving" gesture and drove down the road where he met one of the reservation officers. She asked him what happened since he was pale and visibly shaken, all he was able to muster was "I dunno it's massive and I don't think I belong here I didn't... uh" and she immediately put her hand up and said "don't worry about it I gotcha. I've been wondering when this would happen again, go ahead and get outta here." Then she drove off she didn't go to the area but rather parked her car sideways blocking the entrance to that area and started making calls. He says by the way that thing was looking directly in his eyes, not to mention the absurd size and aggression/lack of fear also folded clothes, that he knew he was face to fave with a skin walker and he hopes he never comes across something like that again.
To end this, I'll talk about what the younger brother told me and shown me about their heritage. One day he took out a box and showed me the contents, saying that his father had given it to him, and had been passed down from father to son for over a thousand years. Inside was a couple different dry plants and various things, but most notably a rock carved by hand of a reptile like humanoid. It looked like a person but with armored scales and face with a protruding mouth and large teeth. I don't want anybody to think I'm a conspiracy theorist, cause I'm not but this thing looks exactly what I've heard explained reptilian aliens would probably look like. We were both pretty amazed, as he never really thought twice about what that would mean. Around this time we were getting stoned and entertaining ourselves with aliens and laughing about conspiracy theories. Keep in mind, this is the guy who was born with a split tongue and slits in his eyes. His mother confirmed that to me as well, he went on to tell me the Zuni's are protecting the secrets of the land and their reservation doesn't have a casino because they refused to sell out all their knowledge to the government. He said he was taught that beings came out from inside the earth and met with their people thousands of years ago. These beings lived somewhere inside the earth where it's warm, and eventually these reptilian beings went back to live under the surface. I don't remember if they went back into the earth after they had some feud, or war, or if it was because of outsiders arriving but after they met the ancient Zuni's for a short time they bred with each other. My buddy is apparently a descendant of those two species mixing and is why he was born with a split tongue and slits in his pupils.
Now I don't know what connection Skinwalkers have to this reptilian species that live inside the earth, or roasting tiny food thieves and celebrating while they scream through an agonizing death but I do find it very interesting that all of this is associated with native belief. I plan on going over all this with him too, as I'm going off of memory from 5-20 years ago. The younger brother is my closest friend so if anybody has questions I'll do my best to answer, or if there's something you'd like me to ask him I can do that as well.

COVID-19 Transit Impacts in US/Canada for 2020-05-18

😷 Wear a mask as you're coming back. I'm posting these with a historical intent. Links where possible, and let me know if your local is missing.
NOTE: MOST AGENCIES ARE ASKING FOR ESSENTIAL TRAVEL ONLY -- MEDICAL AND SUPPLY RUNS, JOB TRANSIT FOR THOSE WHO PROVIDE THOSE SERVICES. STAY HOME! EXPECT DELAYS AS THEY RUN CRITICALLY LOW ON STAFF.
Many agencies are requiring you wear a mask. Most ask you board from the back, and are putting limits on passenger boarding. Mask requirements are marked with "⚠️" and are because of state orders.
If the agency has a pass app, please pay for the ride through it -- it helps the agency!
(I have also taken the time to clean up and organize the list a bit)

[RF] The Ape in The Safe

I remember. God knows if I try I can still remember, believe it or not. I got a brain like a mine. Memories like tunnels all the way down. Branching and twisting deeper down inside me. But you know time. Beams rot and earth sweats and sometime...sometimes I’ll go looking for a name or a face and there’ll be nothing but rubble. Big black cave-in on my thirty-fifth birthday or my high-school graduation. Dropping out of college and my great aunts all buried together. I don’t even try to sift through it anymore.
But if there’s one tunnel that’s as solid as a gun barrel it's the time I spent working repossessions in 1966. I worked for a P.I. I met after I got out of the army. He’d been fingered by the V.A. to sniff out deserters and he came looking my neck of the woods. He had been looking for a buddy of mine. At first I told him to shove it but two hundred bucks and a job offer later, I tell you. The look on a mans face when you walk in on him screwing his neighbours teenage daughter with a gun in one hand and an arrest warrant in the other, it’s not a first day story that a lot of people can match up to.
Cortez had offered me the job as he was in need of someone able to walk streets he couldn't walk without being fingered for a bad actor. What he meant by that was he wanted a good white boy in brown pants to vault a few fences, look through a few windows through cupped hands without having the cops called on him every five minutes despite giving a very convincing story about a potential gas leak. I called bullshit on that early on, but didn’t press it as it was good money. But straighten my damn hams if a pair of wire-frame glasses I lifted off my dad and a few ‘aw jeez’s and a couple of ‘golly I’m real sorry’s didn’t make people annoyed or assuaged enough to let you get out of their faces without so much as a reprimand. The glasses thing was a trick I used a crazy amount of times throughout my career. People trust nerds. Or at least feel like they don’t have anything to fear from them or don’t think that they’re going to need to prove themselves to them in anyway. They came in handy in fights, too. People avoid the glasses almost subconsciously.
But I went on to work with Juan Phillipe Gavrón Cortez for that entire year until I moved on to other P.I. work under my own license. And believe it or not, like I said before, that time was the most memorable I ever spent working that side of the law. But Jimmy, or ‘Señor Cortez’ as he’d have me call him in front of his wife and kids, I drove him from job to job and did some picking up and dropping off and developed a few rolls of film in my granny’s bathroom and then dropped ‘those’ off on some very fancy doorsteps. Besides catching folks dodging the draft or dodging taxes or pretending they can’t walk. I remember this one time, after congress passed this disabilities list ‘morbid obesity’ was one of the new bright and shiny ones. And over eight thousand new people started claiming dissability. And I tell you, you won’t believe how fast some of those fat motherfuckers can move. Not that some of them didn’t qualify. But there’s nothing like having a fat sobbing man being forcefully weighed by two court officers to check that he ‘is’ in fact over 100 pounds.
Jimmy and me and his seemingly endless supply of cousins also worked litigations for this downtown law office. Mainly going over to clients places and not outright threaten anyone, but roll up our sleeves and lean against some doorways just so as to flash the leather of what could be a .38 in a holster. But most of the time, we went into bankrupt peoples houses and retrieved physical collateral to pay off their court debts. People who owed money to the bank. People who couldn’t cough up legal fees.
I remember this one job. We drive up to this house. Big. Glass house. And we go in and we begin to retrieve the collateral. But there’s this one armchair. This sickly green leather thing with thin little mahogany feet. And there’s this blonde girl sitting in it. Legs tucked up under her. Trying not to cry. She wouldn’t get up. We were nice about it. We weren’t complete assholes. Generally we’d just stone-wall. No reaction. Insults, spit, fists. We just move along. And so when she won’t get up, I just pull the chair with her in it through the house and load it into the truck. She doesn’t say a word. And we’re about halfway down the hill when she starts banging on the side of the cab to be let out. We do, but she don’t say nothing, she just hugs herself with her bare arms and walks up the hill.
Her daddy said it was about it being her mom’s chair. Mother topped herself after daddy lost millions. Not his fault. He tried to break into the casino business out in Vegas. And those boys don’t like competition. That is the most walled of all walled gardens. The guy submits all the permits and cost plans and puts up the money and pays off all the right people and hands out all the under the table cash they tell him they’re gonna need from him, they still shred him. Casino built, slot machines in plastic. All those shiny little chips. They waited until the very last second. And then they knocked down every door and threatened every soul who could make his dream a reality. In three days. He lost everything. And on the fourth day he receives the bill for the demolition of his own casino. A demolition that had been booked a year prior to him paying every single one of those pricks.
But I also remember the circus. An entire circus. This sun-bleached high-top that sat outside Albuquerque. We turn up and there’s nobody home. Everything set up for a show. Nobody there. Except for the ring leader. This flabby guy with no shirt on and a pair of jeans tucked into treadless cowboy boots and he’s stacking a bon-fire. Broken chairs and shit. And sitting right in the middle of it like an egg in a nest, is this big green safe. This old-school monster with brass dials. Size of a Datsun. And this guy is drawing on this dunhill cigarette and he’s screaming his head off. “This is what you fuckin’ get!” this and “This is what you fuckin’ get! You bitch!” That. And we stroll in and we ask him what he’s doing and he looks at us. And he draws this bright orange cattle-prod from this leather loop around his belt and he’s weighing it in his hand like he’s going to take a swing at us. And so we reach into our jackets and we flash our pieces and he lets his arm fall. And we ask him again, you know what’s the deal here, collateral’s coming in, legal defence needs to get paid, what’s with all the broken collateral? And the guy doesn’t say a word, he just flicks the switch on the cattle-prod and the sticks it into the bon-fire and the whole thing goes up. These big gasoline gorged flames. And we’re all watching this thing go up.
And that’s when the safe starts screaming.
Just howling. Like a storm siren at the bottom of a well. And my buddy, he pulls his gun and he starts whipping this fucking guy. Screaming at him. We’re running around like maniacs, trying to find water. My buddy Angelo just stomps the flames with his boots and eventually he just crashes right into the blaze and throws his body against the safe and it topples. End over end, it mashes into the ground. Angelo’s dropping and rolling. I go over to him but he’s okay. My other buddy Reese, he’s dragging the leader by the hair and he throws him onto the safe. Guy screams, the safe was red hot.
And next thing the guy knows there’s three guns in his face. I’m frozen. But everybody else is screaming. They grab his wrists and make him work the dials. It’s burning his fingers bad. But he’s laughing and soon enough they’re turning that wheel and they all heft the door open.
And flying out is this Orangutan. Enormous. And pursued by a black cloud that smells like burning hair and grilled meat. Teeth like sickles it comes at Reese, the monkey takes a swing at him and clips his jaw and I tell you it sounded like a queue ball hitting an eight! Pop! Jaw, broken. And without thinking, guns start going off. And they just shred that poor animal.
And the leader, he’s just laughing. And we don’t know what to do. So we just call the cops.
We never found out what happened.
Until about a year later. There was this bar where all the cops drank and really all the legal servants had a tab. A real fuck-Irish place. There were better bars but I made sure to show up every once in a while to pay tribute to the other, ah, assholes in my line of work.
But I’m there with a date of all people. And everyone’s talking and we get onto war stories. You know, gristly shit to rile up the girls and what-not. But out of nowhere, my date starts telling this story! She was a paralegal at the time and she starts talking about this gristly court case she’s on. She’s talking about this class action type deal. This ‘incident’ at this circus that was in the county at the time. She’s talking about one of the acts. This act they did with a magician and this orangutan. This disappearing act. Magician comes out with a pair of mahogany boxes. Big as a mini-fridge. Crank on the side. And this act is an audience participation affair.
The magician announces the trick. Something will be going into the box. And won’t be coming back out. The ape is going around and it’s going to pick somebody out for the trick, right?
And he grabs this baby.
This little toddler out of her chair and he waddles off with her. And the mother follows. And people are kind of freaked out, but the mon’s laughing and going along with it. The ape sets the kid down. Pats it on the head. And the magician’s upset but the mother’s into it. This young blonde. Country girl. And the magician laughs it off, picks the kid out of the ape’s arms, hands it back to the mom and people are set at ease.
Now. The magician briefs the woman. Something personal is going into the box. And it’s going to be sucked into the magical googah void or whatever. And eventually returned to her. No big deal. And the monkey. Is supposed to take something from her. Necklace, handbag, hat, whatever! And like you already fucking know, that ape has got that baby in that box quicker than the magician can mace the damn thing. And it’s cranking the crank and smiling and nobody knows wether to scream or not. Is this the act? Nobody knows. Evidently the magician is keeping on with the show, that’s his job. He’s making jokes and assuaging the mother under his breath that the kid is ok and he follows through with a quick spell and the ape hobbles across to the second cabinet and swings open the door.
And there’s a top hat. Black velvet top hat. The magician fakes being shocked, the mother is looking concerned and the ape wears the hat and does a dance before putting the hat back into the cabinet. Door close. Crank routine, back to the first cabinet. Door open. Cantaloupe. Ha, ha, ha. Magician is hurrying it along. He’s talking into his head set, and the monkey keeps running back and forth between the cabinets, cranking and opening doors, alarm clock, shoes, cake, microscope, gloves, no baby, no baby, no baby! And the mother is starting to get upset. And so everyone’s starting to get upset. She’s getting a little too wrapped up in it. “My baby, my baby!” And the audience is starting to make it clear that this act isn’t funny anymore. People are calling out. The magician’s panicking, rushing through the act. And then he declares one final joke.
“CRANK THE OTHER WAY!”
And the ape does a big ‘whoopsidoo’! And he cranks the other way.
And sitting in the cabinet, is this little, itty-bitty babydoll.
And he walks over to the mother. And he tucks the doll into her thin little arms. And waits for the applause.
Police. FBI. Search party after search party. They never found the kid. As much as one can grieve. That is the best damn magic trick that I ever heard pulled. And like they do with real witches. They tried to burn that monkey.
I got a brain like a mine. Memories are like tunnels I dug. If I wanna see my brother’s face or my mom’s, if I wanna remember the first ride I ever bought. Or the first girl I frenched. All I've gotta do is take a walk. Down those tunnels. But lately, the more I try to remember, the more cave-ins I find. I couldn’t tell you what colour my mom’s eyes were. Let alone her hair. I don’t remember my pops at all. But I know. As long as I’m alive, the tunnel down which ‘that’ monkey lives. That’s been cast in steel. If it all comes crashing down. That tunnel. Is gonna be there forever.

The craziest game of poker (for me)

The craziest game of poker (for me)
Do I call a $1,300 bet with 3–7dd?
Preface:
I’m a casual player in Albuquerque, where there is only one good poker room. I usually stay in the higher stakes (2–5 and 5–5) and consider myself a better-than-average poker player.
The night before I won big (up about $2,000). It’s July 4th and by the time we get the kids to bed it’s 11 p.m. Feeling good about my good run the night before, I talk to the wife about going back. She’s hesitant, saying it’s late but I tell her that I called the casino and there are two seats open in the 5–5 game.
I make it to the casino and without looking at the table, I buy-in at the cashier for $900. When I sit down at the table, there are only four players left and I’m sitting down with the biggest stack by $300 or $400. Not exactly the scenario I was expecting. I tell myself the table will probably break within an hour.
Right away, I pinch off $300 for an aggressive player who raised with 9–2 off. He leaves frustrated but before I worry about the table breaking, New Player sits down. I have no information about him but I thought I smelled booze on him. He sits down with $300.
On his first hand in the game, I find myself with J-J. I bet preflop $25 and New Player calls. The flop comes 9 high with two clubs. I’m first to act and c-bet with $25, he immediately goes over the top with $125. He only had $150 behind so calling is not an option and shove. He instant calls. The board runs out blank, blank. I show my JJs and he folds. He doesn’t show but as he threw his cards down, I get a quick glance and pretty sure I saw clubs so he called $300 on a flush draw.
New Player steps away from the table. The dealer mentions that he’s a gambler. That’s all the information I have on him.
New Player comes back and sits down with $1,300.
It’s around 12:30 a.m. and there isn’t much action at the table. The other two players and I are having a good chat and I think to myself that we’re all way too friendly for there to be any action at the table and I’ll just rack up and leave at 1 a.m.
As a general rule, I don’t straddle. I view it as unnecessarily blinding yourself. But the two other players and I are pretty friendly and I announce that I’m going to straddle one time tonight. The button comes to me and I put my straddle chips out but then pull them back and tell the table, “Not this time.”
It’s 12:50 a.m. and I’m the button. This is my last orbit. I tell the table, “OK, this is it. This is my one straddle.”
And I tell the dealer jokingly, “I feel this one” when really I’m donating $10 to a friendly game before leaving for the night.
Both blinds call the straddle and I look down and see 3–7dd. Wow, what a hand to straddle on. Blah.
The flop comes 4–5–6 with two spades. I double check my cards and yep, it’s confirmed — I have the second nut straight.
The small blind bets $15. The big blind, aka New Player, raises and makes it $45. To protect my hand against the flush draw, I raise to $145.
The small blind folds. And within 15 seconds, New Player ships it in. Yep, he ships in $1,300.
WTF.
Aside from all the calculations poker players have to deal with when faced with this sizable bet, I have an additional calculation: my wife hates poker. She just hates it. And because we’re in an equal partnership, we both have to agree for me to take “our” money to play a game of skill, or as she sees it , to gamble. I know that if lose $1,600 (all profit) on a night she didn’t really want me to go, it would be a new season before I saw the inside of a poker room.
But here I am: second nut and someone just 10x the pot. I’m trying to figure out where the hell I am in the hand. Obviously, the only hand I lose to is 7–8 but I tell myself, why would he shove all in when he has the stone-cold nuts? 7–8 just didn’t add up. I announce I have the second nut and trying to decide what to do. He mumbles to the player next to him that he actually has the second nuts.
I shouldn’t even be in this hand. I’m not the straddling kind. I should have seen my 3–7dd on the button and folded and called it a night. But here I am, facing a $1,300 raise with, again, 3–7dd.
I’m guessing it takes me four minutes to make the call. (edit: Thinking back, while it felt like four minutes, it was probably closer to one with maybe 90 sec being the max)
The dealer flips the turn. It’s a goddamn 3 of spades.
What a shitty card. If this crazy guy was on a flush draw, he just got there and now I have to tell my wife that I didn’t leave when I was up $600.
The river is a J.
He shows 2–3. He flopped the bottom straight.
I just won a $2,600 hand with 7–3 suited.
Sure, I’ve won bigger pots but those usually involved the usual suspects: AA vs KK.
For all intents and purposes, I should have been on my way home with $600 profit from less than two hours of play.
Man, what a game.

The Unofficial Timeline for 7 Days To Die

I started working on this months ago, and stopped a day later, then picked it up recently because I wanted to finish it. While it's mentioned below, I'd like to say it here: I know that this might be a mess, and not everybody will like it. But that's the fun of it all; it's not official, and will never be official, so it's fun to create stuff or imagine what happened that hasn't been explained yet. Whether you enjoy it or hate it, I had fun doing this! :)
7 DAYS TO DIE (UNOFFICIAL) LORE—TIMELINE
THIS IS AN UNOFFICIAL TIMELINE OF THE LORE LEADING UP TO THE SETTING OF 7 DAYS TO DIE. ALL EVENTS DEPICTED IN THIS ARE UNOFFICIAL/UNCONFIRMED AND SHOULD BE TREATED AS SUCH (duh).
THIS IS NOT PERFECT. MUCH OF THIS MAY NOT SEEM REALISTIC OR MAY BE TOO CONSTRAINED. IF YOU FEEL THAT SOMETHING DOESN’T QUITE FIT, LET ME KNOW AND I CAN CHANGE IT. IF YOU WANT, YOU CAN HELP OUT.

6:18 PM
- POTUS authorizes full-scale retaliation. Several US ballistic missiles are launched.
- The War commences. China denies any action against the United States, despite their declaration of war the day before, but are bombed shortly after. The United States preps a full-scale invasion scenario into China. The seven immediate nuclear missiles are destroyed. Several more are launched from ocean level, believing to be submarine-based launches. Three of them reach the west coast of the United States. Several submarines are destroyed by military response.
6:23 PM
- Los Angeles is struck by two nuclear warheads several seconds apart. Few of the city’s skyscrapers collapse from the shockwave and sheer force of the explosions.
- News quickly spreads across the nation, confirming the detonation of nuclear weapons in Los Angeles. Panic spreads nationwide as people try to evacuate. Highways quickly go into gridlock, forcing people to escape on foot. Several people take shelter in several bunkers, only to quickly fill up.
- Divisions of the US Armed Forces are deployed in several cities to assist in the evacuation.
6:28 PM
- Seattle and San Diego are hit by two separate nuclear warheads.
- The San Diego warhead was not a head-on strike, instead striking closer towards the outskirts, nearest to the highways. Most on the highway were killed in the immediate blast, while those in the inner city survived.
- Thirty-two more ballistic missiles are confirmed launched from China as retaliation. Many of them strike the west coast and further inland. The midwestern US (Colorado) all the way to the east coast is spared from ballistic strikes due to NORAD’s immediate response.
6:30 PM
- Gravestown is devastated by two consecutive nuclear strikes. The majority of Navezgane County is spared the immediate effects of the detonations.
6:30-8:00 PM
- Six more nuclear warheads breach past NORAD defenses from China, striking Portland, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and even reaching Austin, Texas.
8:00 PM
- No further nuclear launches from China. Birds are in the air and are headed for China. Cities affected/destroyed are Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Xi’an.
- Over the next five days, the USAF is deployed across the United States and throughout China. Martial law is declared in the US, and POTUS is relocated to the Mount Weather Communications Shelter on June 14.
JUNE 14—RUSSIA BECOMES INVOLVED
9:58 AM EST
- A van containing a nuclear weapon is detonated in the US capitol. Armed forces are sent to assist the injured and dying.
- NORAD detects several Russian submarines off the east coast of the US. DEFCON 1 is once again in effect, formerly set to DEFCON 2.
10:10 AM
- Russian aircraft arrives in Washington, D.C., dropping soldiers across the city with the intent to take over the White House and overthrow the president. It is revealed the president is hidden away.
- Evacuations are set for the unaffected areas of the city. Several Russian soldiers kill people attempting to flee the city limits.
10:14 AM
- POTUS and NORAD authorize launch of four ballistic missiles targeted at Moscow, Russia.
10:16 AM
- Four ballistic missiles are launched from the United States towards Russia.
- USAF continues to evacuate the outer regions of Washington, D.C.
10:17 AM
- A second nuclear weapon is detonated in the capitol, killing millions. It is unknown who detonated it or where it was detonated.
10:19 AM
- Russia retaliates by launching seven nuclear ballistic missiles targeting New York, Washington, Orlando, Boston, and Atlanta.
10:22 AM
- The United States launches nine more nuclear missiles targeting several Russian cities.
- Several Russian planes fly over the skies across the eastern seaboard attempting to drop soldiers with the intent on invasion. Many of them are shot down, their soldiers killed in their parachutes, regardless of the Geneva Convention.
10:25 AM
- Two Russian bombers drop three nuclear warheads onto Columbus, Ohio, destroying the city entirely. The resulting EMP causes the planes to crash, killing all onboard.
- Poland, France, and the United Kingdom join the conflict, firing their own missiles at Russia and China.
- Several Russian planes touch down in Detroit, Michigan, assuming complete control of the city over several hours.
10:40 AM
- Moscow is struck by two of three nuclear warheads, one failing to detonate. The other nine launches strike other Russian cities, including Saint Petersburg, Omsk, and Samara.
11:00 AM – 9:00 PM
- New York City, Orlando, Boston, and Philadelphia are hit by nuclear warheads and sustain heavy damage. Russia retaliates against Poland, the United Kingdom, and France with nuclear launches targeting them respectively. London, Paris, Nice, Manchester, Warsaw, and Marseille are all struck.
- Many refugees within the United States flee towards the center of the country, residing within the countryside and avoiding major cities. Denver, Oklahoma, and Houston—to name a few—are mostly deserted, with many vehicles remaining on the roads, forever trapped in gridlock.
- The east and west coasts are in complete blackout, a result of the EMPs created by the nuclear detonations.
- China has gone quiet in all military aspects. US soldiers in the region have confirmed that survivors are surrendering.
- Russia invades sections of the UK and Italy, expanding their territory with the intent to take control of more military weaponry. At the same time, their government no longer exists. Many survivors in the affected regions panic; the country is in absolute turmoil, with riots occurring everywhere.
- The northern area of Manhattan is mostly unaffected by the blast, but the radiation has killed most of the people in the vicinity. Cars are left running, filled with the corpses of those who succumbed while trying to escape. Bodies of USAF soldiers can be found as well.
- Riots break out in the few US cities still densely populated. Martial law is further enforced.
- The Blackout occurs: Many power plants within the affected regions are abandoned or destroyed. A rolling blackout occurs across most of North America. Very few cities still hold access to electricity.
June 14
- Radiation from the seaboards begins to seep into water systems and streams, which will begin to irradiate and pollute most major water sources across the country in the coming weeks.
- Patients in hospitals across the United States begin to die by the millions as backup power fails.
- Order starts to break down across several areas in the mid-US.
- Several more nations join into the conflict, firing their weapons at Russia and China.
- A global, limited nuclear exchange occurs. Action between nations is limited to several minutes. Detonations occur over three hours. 49 nations are confirmed affected or destroyed by the exchange. Very few nations remain unaffected or functioning, such as Africa, Australia, regions of South America, and parts of the central US. The rest struggle or collapse from radiation or economic failure.
June 15
- An undetonated nuclear warhead in Moscow suddenly explodes. Millions are killed in an instant. Remnants of Russian missile command see this as an attack and immediately fire twelve more nuclear missiles. They launch in random directions.
- Poland is hit again. England is hit again, London is devastated. Paris is struck again, causing the collapse of the famed Eiffel Tower. Uganda, Africa is struck, leading to them retaliating against Russia.
- The United States is once again hit by Russian warheads. New York’s north side is hit, killing millions of survivors. Washington, D.C. is hit again. NORAD nearly shoots down all of them. One surviving missile strikes Kansas City, devastating it in moments.
- After this day, no further nuclear missiles are launched from any nation. Communications break down across the world. The Great Silence begins.
June 16
- The War ends. Two-and-a-half billion people are dead. Many more are injured and dying; the death toll is expected to climb another billion over several months.
- Several countries drop communications, either intentionally or unintentionally. The United States, for two weeks, is isolated from the rest of the world except for Canada and remnants of Mexico.
June 18
- Radiation has seeped into the water systems of many inhabited US cities. People are poisoned and begin to die. USAF remnant soldiers begin to ration food and water to the population.
- NORAD is abandoned, its surviving crew scattering across the mid-US.
- Surviving members of the Woodstock Militia regroup in Denver with the intent to boost morale across the surviving states.
- Navezgane County, Arizona regains contact with the mid-US states. Several other counties of other western states soon do the same. Navezgane’s climate is heavily altered. Snowy regions plague the mountains, while plant-life blooms elsewhere. The area surrounding Gravestown is abandoned, filled with the bodies of war victims and populated with survivors, who are only now emerging from their bunkers with the intent on beginning a cleanup effort.
June 20
- Cleanup attempts begin across remnants of the nation with the help of USAF. The president is relocated to Denver, Colorado and addresses the nation to his best extent.
July 2-5
- The United States is divided into three sections: The States, The West Wasteland, and The East Wasteland.
- USAF members return from overseas after weeks of silence. Many have died from radiation poisoning and were buried in China.
- Survivors from neighboring countries, including China and Russia, begin to appear on shorelines as they make their way to the States. Very few are turned away. Many Chinese and Russian survivors surrender, only to be taken in and sheltered. It is from these survivors that the extent of the damage from the war is revealed. Russia’s economy collapsed in a matter of days, whereas China’s economy “seemingly collapsed the moment the very first bomb touched down.”
- People begin farms in their own backyards, planting gardens and producing crops.
July 5-16
- Power plants across the States are restored; the lights turn back on across the country, even in areas across the Wastelands. Navezgane County’s power is restored. Some power plants have melted down in recent weeks, irradiating parts of North America for thousands of years.
July-August
- The Great Meltdown occurs, a period in which power plants across the world experience near-simultaneous meltdowns as a result of abandonment and lack of maintenance. Several European countries are irradiated, millions killed.
- Japan’s nuclear plants melt down; those who were unable to flee die quickly of radiation poisoning.
- Hawaii is spared from the radioactive cloud, which eventually reaches North America by early August.
- The west coast of North America is devastated by radioactivity from the GM. Those not already killed by the war are killed by the cloud.
- Alaska is spared from the radioactive cloud.
- The majority of South America is spared from the radioactive cloud, but its west coast is devastated.
- Most of Europe is devastated. Those who are able to escape are forced underground.
- The world truly becomes isolated. Two billion more die during the Great Meltdown. Three-and-a-half billion survivors remain on Earth.
- The States are spared from the radioactive cloud that covers the majority of the planet.
- Very few places on the coastlines are spared from the radioactive cloud, such as Navezgane County.
- Many cities lie dead, full of the remains of the people who used to live there.
August
- An outbreak of Cholera occurs in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A mixture of radioactive and infected water leads to 100,000+ dead, an eighth of its population.
OUTBREAK OCCURS
- A mutation via radiation exposure leads to the full-blown outbreak of V-713, or known more as the Muerto contagion in North America.
August 4
- Cases of an unknown pathogen are reported in Navezgane and several other spots of land across the western board. Reports of infection are heard in Albuquerque and Sante Fe, New Mexico, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Denver, Colorado. Due to recent outbreaks of Cholera and other dangerous diseases, USAF and doctors collaborate to deliver protective masks, while simultaneously quarantining the sick.
August 5
- Bodies are found in multiple areas across several states, in similar condition to the bodies found in the Cascade Range months earlier.
- Muerto spreads into several more towns and cities. Hospitals quickly become overwhelmed with new admissions.
- Many fear the outbreak will reach their area and attempt to leave. Highways are once again clogged, while soldiers attempt to console and comfort those panicking, encouraging them to return home.
AUGUST 6 – THE MUERTOS RISE
- Cases spread further to larger cities.
- Hundreds of infected individuals begin to die in hospitals; some die on the streets. Several areas are quarantined, with hazmat teams burying the dead; in most cases, the dead are burned once space runs out.
- Reports of attacks begin to pile up in areas hit hardest by the infection. They are dismissed as riots and labelled as “fearful anarchists.”
- In the evening, sudden mass ‘riots’ break out across the western board. News reports depict people chasing each other and knocking others to the ground ‘with the intent to maim or kill’.
- Citizens, sick or healthy, attempt to flee the cities and areas that are in chaos. Many seek protection by local police forces, but are gunned down mistaken for attackers.
- Police forces in the main cities are quickly overwhelmed. USAF forces in the area respond with deadly force, but many of them are overwhelmed as well.
- Roadblocks are set up on highways, hoping to contain the violence to the cities—however, reports emerge of similar attacks occurring in small towns and even villages.
- The cities’ streets are a mix of stampeding civilians and crazed attackers.
August 7
12:00 AM – 5:00 AM
- USAF forces are forced to pull out of Denver’s limits. The president is long gone, relocated to De Moines, Iowa.
- Roadblocks outside Denver, Salt Lake City, and Santa Fe are overrun by infected individuals.
- Doctors confirm on radios and functioning stations that the attackers are deceased. The Muerto contagion is gained its name, but the infected are rarely, if ever, named as zombies.
7:23 AM
- The president addresses the nation, revealing the full scale of the situation and urges calm. This does little to prevent further panic.
8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- The infected overrun multiple military outposts across several cities.
- USAF forces conduct mass napalm bombings in Salt Lake City, Denver, Santa Fe, and more, in an attempt to control the spread. The effort fails.
- Reports arise that USAF forces have gunned down refugees pouring into towns neighboring Denver and Santa Fe. Outrage spreads quickly as the infected continue to migrate further east.
4:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- USAF outposts in Fort Collins, Colorado and Rapid City, South Dakota are overrun by infected.
- Reports of infection arise in the city of Wichita, Kansas. Suspected cases are either quarantined or killed to contain the spread.
- Fort Collins is firebombed by USAF pilots. Containment is initially a success, but the sound draws mass herds of infected hosts. The fort is declared a lost cause.
August 8
- Outposts and blockades are stationed across several areas not yet hit, such as Navezgane County. Cities further to the east succumb to infection and riots.
- Firebombing methods are abandoned for major cities; citizens are left to their own devices. Many die in the panic.
August 10 – August 11
- The Muerto contagion is reported in Navezgane and several other counties. People resort to locking themselves in their homes or committing suicide. However, many commit suicide by either poisoning or hanging, leading to reanimation.
- Suicide patients begin to reanimate over several hours, leading to a siege of infected hosts in several towns.
- The Diersville hospital is under siege throughout the 11th, leading to the infected escaping and attacking the neighboring folk.
- Infection reported in Perishton.
August 13
- Perishton under siege.
- Diersville confirmed lost. Many residents forced to fend for themselves. USAF forces abandon the town after failed attempts to control the infected hordes. Some fleeing residents are gunned down, mistaken for the dead.
- Several nuclear weapons are dropped on Denver, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque as a last resort. The resulting blasts irradiate the entire region. Navezgane County is more or less sealed off from the rest of the nation.
August 18
- Power failures plague large regions of the States.
- The infection is controlled in several areas via USAF border fences.
- USAF forces begin airdrops in areas affected, but still holding survivors.
August 25
- Navezgane is declared a hazard zone. Airdrops still occur, but it is forbidden to set foot until otherwise.
- The Muerto contagion is contained; half of the States survive.
- 7 Days To Die begins.

Bernco's new Mobile Voting Unit: WTF?!

I just received a voter information pamphlet in the mail which touts a new Mobile Voting Unit, a polling place in a large RV. It will drive to a different location every day in the two weeks before to Election Day. Linda Stover, the Bernalillo County Clerk, calls it "a historic move to increase voter participation."
"The mission for having a mobile voter unit is to have higher participation and higher voter turnout," Stover said.
Except, of the 13 destinations the Mobile Voting Unit will visit, 10 of them are senior living facilities, including luxury/high-cost facilities where residents must be mobile (not wheelchair- or bedbound) as a condition of living there. One more (NM Veterans' Memorial Park) is effectively a senior day facility. The other two are Los Ranchos and Civic Plaza.
So, in this "historic move to expand voter participation," Bernco is spending almost all of the Mobile Voting Unit's resources to directly target the demographic with the highest voter participation. By targeting so many luxury facilities where the wealthy residents are likely to be white, they are also effectively targeting the racial demographic with highest voter participation.
Does this smell like bad faith to anyone else? They know a mobile voting station would benefit young people the most. Why not "expand voter participation" for a day at somewhere like UNMH, where there are hundreds of employees working long hours at low-paying jobs who might find it difficult to vote? They couldn't spend a day at CNM, which is attended by thousands of nontraditional students who are also juggling jobs and families? Coronado Mall for a day? Nope. Luxury living facilities for wealthy retirees are a more worthwhile use of the County's "get out the vote" resources.
Let's take a look at some of the luxury facilities where the Mobile Voting Unit will be spending an entire day:
Palmilla Senior Living lists Cottonwood Mall, Farm and Table, Summer Concert Series, the Museum of Natural History, the Balloon Fiesta, and Old Town Plaza among the excursions on offer to residents. There are two early voting polling places located 2.1 miles away from the facility, a seven minute drive to either one. Each nearby polling place is open all day in the two weeks leading up to Election Day.
Here's a photo of La Vida Llena residents enjoying a Polynesian cocktail party. There is an early voting polling place 1.4 miles away from the facility, a three minute drive, which will be open all day for the two weeks leading up to Election Day.
The nearest early voting polling place to Paloma Landing is 1.3 miles from the facility, a four minute drive. In the two weeks leading up to the election, Paloma Landing could offer dozens of bus excursions to the polling place without conflicting with the other weekly bus excursions to Target, Sandia Casino, restaurants, and twice weekly excursions to Walmart. They have offered bus trips to the polls every year up til now.
Are these destinations really the best use of Bernalillo County's "get out the vote" resources? Does County Clerk Linda Stover seriously believe that these wealthy seniors would otherwise not be able to vote if Bernco did not deliver a voting RV directly to their door?

[LFA] Vampire Drag Racer

So over the weekend I marathoned through the Fast and the Furious Franchise while playing Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. Weird combo I know but it's given me an amazing idea for a character if I ever played Vampire the Masquerade Table Top.
Okay so here goes.
Silly as though it may be the model for me the male Gangrel in Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines reminded me of Shaggy from Scooby Doo and I'm sticking to that damnit. But we're going with Red Shirt Shaggy for all the weird and spooky adventures he got up to on his own.
"Hey Scoob, remember that time I inherited a mansion in the South and we had to hire ghosts to scare the fake ghost out?"
https://res.cloudinary.com/marios-princess-sex-dot-ga/image/upload/v1536348870/bu6b6gk3rllogebxycul.jpg
"Hey, Scooby like remember that time when I got cursed to be a werewolf so I could be a racer for Dracula's annual monster race we got kidnapped too along with my girlfriend?"
https://ci.memecdn.com/9355247.jpg
"Ah zoinks Scoob I just remember that time you and I opened a box of that contained 13 Demonic Ghosts and we had to track them down with the help of a warlock who was based on Vincent Price"
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/P5u1LxFFOpU/maxresdefault.jpg
Believe it or not, every one of these is true I was a huge Scooby Doo nut as a kid. A vampiric Red Shirt Shaggy Rogers cosplaying as leather jacket-wearing Night Street Racer is the best way I can describe my kindred. To really add to the aesthetic I think he should be wearing sunglasses that hide his glowing red Gangrel eyes.

Also if you'd like a good read here's his back story bellow. But aside from that it should cover everything. It's a bit silly but that's kind of what happened when you mix two concepts together like this.
Adrian(not his real name but that's how this world works) is your standard PC Kindred, 13th generation recently embraced in Kindred terms but "10 Winters" doesn't seem that long compared to immortal creatures of the night. He was embraced in 2008 while he was cross country road trip spiritual journey inspired by classic films like Little Miss Sunshine. When he got to Nevada he had an encounter with a lovely girl in a Las Vegas Casino who told him she was rebelling by sneaking off the Nevada Reservation. Before anything could happen though they found themselves on the run from a big scary looking guy that could give the T-1000 and the Biker from Hell from Raising Arizona a run for their money.
They couldn't outrun him so they drove through the night trying to get away from psycho until the girl tells Adrian to pull over and change seats so she can take the wheel. As soon as she got in the driving chair, the car was doing moves like it was an extension of her own body. The revving of the engine sounded like growls and the way the cars crashed into each other it was like wolves clashing claws. Unfortunately, this was too much for Adrian as one crash lead to a concussion so the rest of the night was fuzzy. He remembers the car stopping, the two drivers getting out and what looked like a scuffle after that just darkness.
The next morning Adrian woke up with a splitting headache, groggy and oddly under his car. Even odder was that any time he tried climbing out from underneath it, he got the most intense pain. And so he just waited for the sun to go down passing in and out of consciousness from his weakened state. When the sun finally went down he did what he could to drive back to his motel feeling like he was coming down from a drug high and hung over combined but a thousand times worse. He didn't realise till it was too late that he rear-ended someone in front of him and drove them off the road. The car crash was brutal but the driver would have survived. If not for Adrian giving in to his urges and partaking in his first feeding. That amount of blood loss was too much and they wouldn't last the night Adrian knew if the policed saw him anywhere near this scene they want to ask what happened last night. So he drove, he drove all through the night to get as far away from it all as he could resting only in the days at motels along the roads. Each time he got to a new town the same fatigue and weakness the same incident would occur before he knew it, car crash and losing control of himself trying to save the victim. It wasn't until Albuquerque that he found himself.
A chance meeting with a giant of a woman named Gerde changed his unlife and made his past for weeks suddenly make sense. He had become a member of the Cainites of the Clan Gangrel it was her duty as the elder who discovered him to take him under her wing and train him to survive and learn the ways of their clan and their history. They went north into the mountains of Colorado for the winter. He learnt Clan Gangrel's history and their ways even seeing a Gathering where he mostly hid behind Gerde who turned out to have been a Viking's wife when she was embraced and a well-respected member of the Clan. When the snow began to melt Gerde gave him her blessing that he was ready for the world on his own and as full member of Clan Gangrel.
Adrian's currently a free agent between the Camarilla and the Anarchs. He hasn't taken any ghouls or childe for his own yet values "tribe" above all else which is why he stays out of kindred infighting. Behind his amicable and good-natured attitude, he's been able to compartmentalise his animalistic urges. He realised all those times he passed out on the road he was giving into his Beast which to his dismay has taken the form of a Jackalope. The Gangrel Curse of taking on a feature of the animal for Adrian is the painful process of the small antlers emerging from his forehead. To cover the repetitive gash marks he covers them by wearing wide lens sunglasses and a bandana. Taking them down only when he goes on his hunts. Despite the fear of nearly dying the night of his embrace by one of the pair of assumed Kindred the chase on motorised wheels has been his peak excitement in his existence and he's done his best efforts to recreate it by going on Night Street Races with pink slip wagers. The loser usually finding themselves attacked while having to walk home. During this time the glasses are down and prongs come out. Not too much of a problem when you can see in the dark and are obscured by your car.

Beginning My Game

It was a quiet night in August, and I was riding my bike back from my friend Kyle’s. He lived just down the street, which was nice seeing how everyone else had already gone off to college. We lived in a quiet, hilly area of Wisconsin; the home of Jeffrey Dahmer, Ed Gein, and others as I had often joked. So, yeah, i was leaving, and that journey changed me.
When I was rounding a curved corner, I saw a red truck coming from the opposite direction. I tried to swerve to avoid it, but the truck tried to avoid me by doing the same.
I was told by doctors I was lucky to be alive, let alone have the use of all my limbs and function in a perfectly normal way. After some physical therapy and painkiller prescriptions, I was released from the hospital. My senior year of high school went pretty well, and I got into a school with an award winning engineering program. My only complaint was that my high school best friend, Kyle and I didn’t talk much anymore.
Myself and six other colleagues were essential in combating the spread of climate change, “The Seven Saviors” is what the media called us. Outside of work, I had an incredibly supportive wife, and three brilliant, kind-hearted children. Everything was going perfectly, until it wasn’t…
You know that feeling you have when you graduate, or being laid off from a job? That feeling of not being exactly sure of what to do next? I had that feeling one night when I returned from a convention in the Philippines.
About a block from home, a plume of smoke floated above the rooftops. Being July and assuming it was a really large bonfire, I paid it no attention. Turning onto my block, where my house once stood, I saw a heap of wooden planks and roaring flames. In that moment, all I could think about was my family, and I jumped out of my car and ran toward the burning building.
“I’m afraid I can’t let you any closer, sir.” a firefighter cautioned.
“That’s MY house! Can you at least tell me if my family is ok?”
“The investigation is still ongoing, so you’ll have to wait over there with the media trucks” the man carelessly stated while coldly smoking a cigarette.
Ignoring his order, I stormed past him and sprinted closer to the raging, crackling inferno. I thought that maybe, with all that equipment on, I’d have the advantage and get away and find out what I needed to. All it actually did was make his tackle more painful.
“Daniels, get off that man, now!” Barked a scratchy voice about ten feet back. A tall, thin man in a suit and jacket approached, extending a hand, “So sorry about that, Dr…” he paused searching his notepad “Mort. That firefighter’s new to the unit; was previously enlisted in the Marines. Hopefully I can answer any questions you may have. Follow me.”
He led me to the side of the nearest firetruck, out of earshot from the nosy reporters. “Robert DeLanely, FBI” he said, flashing a badge. “To answer the question most pressing right now, it doesn’t appear as though any of your family made it out.”
My eyes welled up with tears...I thought of my children, Rebecca was planning for her first year of college in a few months. Stacy (my wife) and I were planning a new business...had it really all ended so abruptly, and for nothing? Shaking, I collapsed by the rear tire of the truck and started crying.
I felt a hand on my shoulder “The bureau extends its sincerest apologies. As hard as this must be for you right now, I’m sure you realize that’s not why I’m here. While combing through the contained areas, we found a note that leads us to believe this wasn’t an accidental event.” He unfolded a piece of paper and handed it to me. “Does this make any sense to you”
I tried to steady my shaking hand to read it… Throughout life, the only reliable companion is yourself. In success and failure. -Yours Truly, The Despots
“No, no it doesn’t.”
DeLanely frowned a bit and rubbed a small snake tattoo on his wrist “Didn’t think so. Let us know if there’s anything you can think of that may help our investigation. Here’s my card. Do you have family or friends nearby you could stay with?”
I told him yes, and while the investigation was wrapping up, I stayed with my folks about an hour away.
A few months went by, and that note always stuck with me. What could it mean? Who were these people? Why did they want to come after me?
One Saturday morning, I was unpacking at a new apartment; it would’ve hurt too much to rebuild on the spot where my loved ones died. I decided to take a break and spend extra time looking at photos I left with my parents a few years back. As I turned the pages of an album, something fluttered to the floor. Picking it up and reading it, it answered everything.
Back in my undergrad days in college, myself and a few other students helped a professor conduct research. Three of these students were the stereotypical college frat douchebags who you wondered how they managed to stay alive for so long; let alone get into college. A couple of times, I jokingly referred to them as “The Despots” as a way to blow off steam. With that realization, a fire grew inside me which I didn’t even realize I had. These dipshits, who barely graduated, were the ones responsible for MY depression? MY almost quitting the field of engineering? MY FAMILY’S DEATH?
I went berserk for awhile; throwing things, screaming, and even punching a hole through the wall, only to be stopped by a pipe.
I sat on the floor, staring at the moonlight cutting through the blinds of the patio. I felt something I hadn’t in a long time. Not just happiness, but great joy. Grinning widely, I realized I lived in the technological age! I was capable of finding these jealous bastards and do something about them.
By six that evening, I had the info I needed in order to track two of them down. I was smart though. I had seen enough documentaries, and YouTube videos to know ways people were caught. I waited. Conveniently, I had professional engagements in areas close to where they lived in the coming months. It would be suspicious if I visited the area abruptly and they went missing. If I waited, I had an alibi.
The following six months went off perfectly fine..at least for me. As for those douches; Ralph and Hector, well..let’s just say those engineers met their engineer. Ralph was easy enough to track down at a casino in Reno; a few drops of liquified sarin in his drink seemed to do the trick.
Hector a was bit trickier. I don’t know if he was worried I would track them down or not. Turns out he was in Buffalo since graduation, and lived in one of those houses with the fancy “smart furnaces”, where you could control the temperature with an app. Puncturing a gas pipe proved to be fairly easy, easier than hacking the app he used at least. Should’ve seen his head flying down the street like a baseball.
I still hadn’t found Rick though...there wasn’t much I remembered about him that I could use to track him down. I knew he hadn’t moved terribly far from me.
At first, I didn’t feel anything about what I did. I did what needed to be done. They no longer deserved to live, though whether they ever deserved to can be debated by a class of philosophy students too busy stroking their egos to realize their degrees will get them nowhere.
You see, however, I developed a problem. I became addicted to killing. Hookers, kids, old fucks with dementia? All too easy to lure in and get rid of. Knowing you have that much power over another person’s existence is truly exquisite. They were all going to die, don’t get me wrong, but the more they squirmed, the worse it got for them. A slice to the throat for those I pitied, and slowly placing them in acid after being drugged for those I really wanted to watch suffer. I now understand why people hunted, you know? I loved the thrill of doing it and not getting caught, avoiding evidence being traced back to me...nothing else was as exciting anymore.
I must’ve gotten a bit too sloppy, because a year later, I was driving back from a summit in New Mexico on renewable energy when I was pulled over. Praying it would all go smoothly, I complied. Hands on the wheel until asked to do something. I reminded myself.
“License and registration please” demanded an officer
I turned to face him, and, it was that agent, DeLaney. Shit.
“Hey, small world! How’s it going?” I said, trying to stay calm.
“Great. How’re you managing?”
“Surprisingly, pretty well overall. Have a new place, traveling again for work.”
“That’s good to hear. Well, listen. I recognized your car from that night, and wanted to warn you. We believe there’s been a serial killer active in a couple..” He glanced to the back of the car “Wait, what’s that?” he asked
“What’s what?” I replied, trying to act dumb
“Do you mind if I check out your car?”
“Go ahead” I knew I cleaned out that car before I left Albuquerque. He wasn’t going to find even a strand of hair.
As the detective opened the car door, I saw the snake tattoo again, and it was in that moment it clicked. Rick, the douche from college, had a snake tattoo on his wrist as well. Tonight I was going to finish what he started...
He leaned into the car’s backseat, and pulled out a knife from under the front passenger seat. He looked shocked and turned to me “Do you want to explain something?” Trying to move before he could process, I punched him, and in his dazed state grabbed the knife from his hand. I got in one good stab to the side before he drew his gun. “Drop the knife. I don’t want to use this on you.”
“I know who you are, and you’re going to see your buddies soon enough .” I yelled pointing the knife in his direction, as a crowd started to gather on an overpass bridge.
I heard the gunfire as I fell. Detective DeLanely stood over me as I lay on the road, bleeding out.
DeLaney bent down and used the gun barrel to move my face to see him “Tell them I say hi” he smirked as I took my final breath.
Or, so I thought.
I heard the sound of heart monitors and people talking.
“Hey there buddy!” It was my mom sitting in a chair by the window. Wondering where I was, I shot up and glanced around. “Aghhh” my head was on fire.
“Careful! That car did quite a number on your neck, sides, and forehead. It may still be a few days before you can get out of bed.” A doctor standing in the doorway stated, scribbling on a notepad.
“Car? Wasn’t I shot?” I asked, looking around the sterile hospital room.
My mom laughed, “Shot? Haha, no luckily not. You were riding back from Kyle’s and a car hit you. You’ve been in a coma for almost a full day.” She started choking up, “We weren’t sure you’d ever wake up to be honest.”
In that moment, I experienced what horror truly was. My world, the next 27 years of my life, were all made up. I was devastated..my dear kids, my loving wife, my career; all a hallucinogenic lie. Kyle stayed by my side until I was ready to check out of the hospital.
1.7 million people sustain a head injury every year. Some die, most don’t, and if you’re really lucky, walk away completely unharmed.
Eventually, I learned to make peace with the world my head built in those few short hours of a coma. I’d never meet my children, my wife(I actually still love her; as crazy as that sounds), or maybe even make some great contribution to the world.
I did make peace with everything..except one thing. Nothing was as pleasurable as being in control of another human’s life. I longed for it once more. Except, this time I would be far more careful than in that fantasy world. I decided to call up a friend I hadn’t seen for a little bit in this world, or decades in the one I dreamed up.
Grinning widely, ready to begin my game, I asked “Hey Kyle, do you want to hang out tonight in the woods?”

[LFA] Vampire: The Masquerade Gangrel Night Racer

Recently started watching the Geek and Sundry Vampire: The Masquerade - L.A. By Night series and it inspired me to do some research on the setting because vampires are cool. Now I played Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines a couple years back so the Clan I've ended up picking for this character definitely didn't come up on my radar but here we go.

They couldn't outrun him so they drove through the night trying to get away from psycho until tells Adrian to pull over and change seats so she can take the wheel.
He had become a member of the Cainites of the Clan Gangrel it was her duty as the elder who discovered him to take her under his wing and train him to survive and learn the ways of their clan and their history.
To cover the repetitive gash marks he covers them by wearing wide lens sunglasses.

Aaaaand that's basically it. I doubt there's a chance this will be picked up as you don't see that many VTM posts on this subreddit, which is no problem DnD's my true love but you can learn to appreciate other RPGs.

For those going to Cannon AFB

I've seen a few posts of people going to Cannon, and asking what there is to do. I've decided to compile a list of what I recommend. I left Cannon in September of 2014, so if anything has popped up since then, I probably don't know about it.
If you like to drink, you'll like CAFB. If you like cheap drinks, go to the Drop Zone. Even better if you live in the dorms, just stumble your ass home. If you don't like to drink/underage, and you have a car, sign up to do AADD. Something to do, and drunk people are hilarious.
Ned Houk Park is on the outskirts and it's really nice. Good hiking trails, good for biking. AND THERE'S GRASS!! I've only been there once, and I enjoyed it, as did my dog.
I'm pretty sure the base has a dog park now, so take the pup for a trip. The Chapel and Outdoor Rec offer a lot of trips like snowboarding, couple's retreats, and nice events for single airmen. Most take you to Taos, Ruidoso, Albuquerque...I never took any trips through them. Even if you decide to venture off on your own. Outdoor Rec will rent you equipment for cheap.
If you live in the dorms, dorm management throws a BBQ every once in a while... and they have free beer!
I was on a Roller Derby Team while I was there. (Not sure if they're still up and running, but if anyone is interested in this, I can contact someone). This is good for the guys and the gals! They always need referees and non-skating officials. Even if the Clovis team isn't around anymore, Amarillo and Lubbock also have teams.
I haven't explored Amarillo much, but I heard the shopping is good. (Hour and a half away)
Lubbock was a place my friends and I frequented often (Hour and a half away). There's a couple of clubs out there ( I recommend HEAVEN, it's a gay club, but it was tons of fun) They have a decent mall and some good restraunts. For those of you who don't know any better, don't eat off shore seafood. Lubbock also has an airport. Tickets are a little bit more expensive than Albuquerque, but it's easier to find someone willing to drive you to LBB than it is ABQ.
Speaking of Albuquerque (3.5- 4 hours away). I've been there approximately 6 times. Each time was to take someone to the airport/pick them up. My husband and I drove through there on the way to California, and I have to say, it's beautiful. I'm sure there are great places to hike. There's a few casinos, and a Hard Rock Cafe.
I'm not sure if the base theatre is still running, but definitely do that. Super cheap for a movie. That place is good for more than just an all-call. FerTheDiddly said that it is free entry and they sell beer.
Another thing, if you like to bang chicks..wear a condom. Cannon is a fucking cess-pool. Everybody is having sex with each other and most people there have had an STD at least once. Especially the dorm rats.
Check out Hillcrest Park. It's dinky, but it's green. EDIT: They have a zoo. Second biggest in the state. And it's a good place for your dog to run. Thanks FerTheDiddly
I think there is a place called Yute Lake where you can camp and fish. Pretty sure you can rent a boat from Outdoor Rec as well.
One of the surrounding towns is Portales. I know they have a brewery. I never really went out there because I was too lazy to explore. Nice houses out there too.
Add in from Comments: Buy a gun and take up some shooting. I believe they just opened an indoor range right off base. There's also Patriot Outdoors. Thanks TheCorvus303
Add in from Comments: Sign up for OPFOR. You got out on the range (Melrose) and help train the SOF dudes. One of my friends got to do this and he said he had a blast. Thanks FerTheDiddly
This is about all I can come up with now, but I will add more as I think of it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I was there for 2 1/2 years and managed to survive.
Edit: Welcome to Af-Can-istan. Clovi-Dishu. Make the most of it. Make friends.
Men: You're going to have to find your women elsewhere... unless you go after a military chick, the women in Clovis are sketchy.
