By the time he was six years old, he could play guitar, bass, drums, and piano, all of which were self taught. He had always wanted to be a songwriter, but at 14 during a weed-inspired freestyle session with his friends, he fell in love with hip hop and put those songwriter dreams on hold. Only a year later, he released his first mixtape under the name Easy Mac called But My Mackin’ Ain’t Easy. He would release a few more projects in high school and change his stage name to Mac Miller, but what brought him to the mainlight was 2010’s K.I.D.S. Songs like “Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza” and “Nikes on my Feet” show the carefree, easily likeable artist that Mac is. He was a newly graduated high schooler and that feeling of invincibility while hanging out with your friends that he was experiencing was exactly who the project was marketed to. The same goes for his next mixtape 8 months later, Best Day Ever. The themes are the same, except this time the hit songs were even bigger. “Donald Trump” became his first ever placement on the Billboard Top 100, first platinum hit, and even allowed Mac to get under the orange man’s skin. All of this led to his debut album in November 2011, Blue Slide Park. It didn’t break any new ground for Mac, but it showed just how popular he had become. The album debuted at number one with 144,000 first week sales, the largest for an independently distributed album since Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s 1995 classic, E. 1999 Eternal. Unfortunately, the album was not received well critically, many calling it bland and useless for anyone outside his target demographic. As usual, Pitchfork was the biggest attacker, giving the album a rare, and almost legendary, 1.0. Less than 5 months later, Mac would return with a slightly different sound that would help jumpstart his evolution throughout his career. Macadelic showed Mac dipping his toe into different sounds. Many of the songs were more psychedelic than previous projects, as evident by the title. Even though his lead single, “Loud”, was still a party song, it’s not carefree or boombap-inspired anymore. Instead, it’s a full out electronic infused banger with Mac making references to lean “I got codeine in my cup, you bet your ass I’m sippin.” His addiction to lean led him to not only change his sound, but become more introspective and depressed, many of the same themes that he would touch on with his next few projects. Watching Movies With The Sound Off showed Mac tumbling down the rabbit hole of drug addiction and depression. He was very up front with his substance abuse problems, which at this point in time was no longer lean, but experimenting with a plethora of different substances. For as dark and personal as this album was, his 2014 mixtape Faces was him at rock bottom. Almost every track out of the 24 on here is about how his drug addiction, specifically to cocaine, has affected his life, to the point where he thought the final track on the project would be the final track he would ever make, “Let’s have a grand finale. The world will be fine without me.” Even the very first lyric that opens up the project is, “I shoulda died already.” As with many artists, the best music comes from the darkest points, and this project is considered one of Mac’s best by many fans. But this mixtape was very much a cry for help and it’s hard to overstate the feeling of despair and suicidal tendencies that Faces gives off. (More reading on why this type of music is often held in high regard) Thankfully, Mac made it through this dark period and after finally signing to a major label in 2015, he released his third studio album, GO:OD AM. Mac isn’t quite out of the hole on this project, but he’s more optimistic than before about his problems. Instead of the personal reflection being about him thinking he’s going to die, it’s about him starting to fix the problems at hand, but not actually having them 100% fixed. But with personal reflection comes heartbreaking lines that makes it hard to listen to now. “To everyone who sells me drugs: don’t mix it with that bullshit; I’m hopin’ not to join the 27 Club” is a particularly hard one to hear now. “Perfect Circle/Godspeed” is where the line is from, as Mac imagines what would happen if he OD’s during the final verse of the 7 minute track. Next was his romance album in 2016, The Divine Feminine. It wasn’t only about romantic love, but also about other lessons he learned from women in his life. It’s also hard to talk about the project without mentioning then girlfriend, Ariana Grande. Even though she says only one track is about her, she also shows up later on the album for one of the best tracks, “My Favorite Part”. Mac was trying to be sober during this process, and he was succeeding. During one interview, he disclosed that he was 88 days sober. The album showed Mac straying away from his drug heavy subject matter and style, instead it was now soulful and filled with layers of instrumentation. It helped lay the groundwork for what would come a couple years later. 2018’s Swimming took the groundwork he did with his previous project and brought it to a new level. The album was lush with bass, guitar, vocal layering, and much more. His subject matter is back to a lot of introspection about his life and career up to this point. Although he had been doing it slightly in his previous projects, this project really shows him leaning into his singing ability, sometimes on entire songs. The opener, “Come Back to Earth”, is a perfect example of this. It’s just him singing over this underwater landscape of synth, bass, and guitar while meditating on the state of his life, “In my own way, this feels like livin. Some alternate reality. And I was drowning, but now I’m swimming; through stressful waters to relief.” Something else cool that he does on Swimming is making well known people just instruments in the background. For example, “What’s the Use?” has a great bassline from Thundercat, but also has backing vocals from The Internet’s Syd and youth football coach Snoop Dogg. Or on “Self Care”, which has additional vocals from Atlanta rapper JID and R&B visionary Blood Orange. It’s a truly beautiful listen that shows Mac going through personal hardships, including his breakup with Ariana, but this time already looking towards the other side. On September 7th, 2018, Mac Miller was found unresponsive in his home and was later pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death was later revealed to be a “mixed drug toxicity” consisting of fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol. It was a day that rocked not only the hip hop world, but the music world as a whole. Every person that was a fan of Mac remembers that day. Due to how introspective and honest Mac’s music had become, his loss left many fans without their hero. He was the type of artist that fans could easily build a personal connection with, connecting themselves onto a mentor going through similar struggles. They had grown up with him; going from the highschool parties, to identity crisis while trying to make it in the real world, their first real relationship, and finally to emotional maturity. Many people, me included, thought that Mac’s musical career was over. After all, his parents owned his music and controlled if there was anything new released, and they were being protective of not only his music, but a documentary that was attempted to be made during the first half of 2019. But that would all change at the beginning of 2020. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Analysis: On January 8th, 2020, it was revealed that Mac’s sixth and final album would be released 9 days later. It turns out that Mac’s 2018 milestone Swimming was not a standalone album, but one half of a concept he was working on called Swimming in Circles. Circles was being made alongside Swimming and only needed some fine-tuning and decision making for it to be put out. So a few months after Mac passed away, his family reached out to the only person that was talented enough and around Mac enough during this process to finish the project to its full potential, Jon Brion. There’s no way to talk about Circles without mentioning the impact of Jon Brion. Jon Brion is most known for his film scores of everything from comedy classics like Step Brothers and Punch-Drunk Love to fantastic dramas like Lady Bird and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. But even outside of the film scores, he’s subtly been a part of many landmark albums in music during the past couple decades. He’s worked with indie darlings like Fiona Apple and Elliott Smith, music legends like Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, 2010s pop giants like Katy Perry and Michael Buble, R&B influencers like Frank Ocean and Beyonce, and even hip hop artists like Kanye. So when someone with the status and resume of Jon talks about Mac like “I was more excited about him than I’ve been in quite some time,” it just shows how much of a talent and impact that Mac had on people. But looking away from Jon’s resume, he was personally sought out by Mac for his help on Swimming and Circles. He became Mac’s mentor during these sessions, not only providing his own instrumentation, but also having Mac look to him after most takes to see if it was good enough. Especially on the songs that were more traditional in their songwriting than Mac’s rap style, he would constantly ask Jon for help and to replace what he laid down, but Jon would just tell him that it was great and reassure him of his talent. Because of these sessions, the family asked Jon if he would finish the album, which he thankfully did. Even looking at the credits for the project, we can see that Jon has credits on every track besides “Blue World”. There’s no way that Circles would be finished, publically released, or up to this quality without the work of Jon Brion. So now that the work behind the album has been established, let’s dive into the album properly. Circles starts off with the minimalistic and quiet title track. Much of the instrumental sounds like layers of chimes while Mac meditates on the overarching theme of the album, being stuck in the cycle that is his life. The song also shows something small, but important that happens on this album, which is that Mac’s voice is super high in the mix. He’s singing right in your ear and while his voice might not be objectively great, the emotion bleeds through the performance. That emotion is here in full effect with the lyrics, as this is one of the tracks that sounds eerily prophetic when it comes to Mac passing away. Starting the song with, “Well, this is what it looks like right before you fall,” might be the most heartbreaking way to start off a posthumous release. It also helps build the bridge from the previous album, as he mentions circles on the last line of his last verse on the last song on Swimming, “Just like a circle, I go back where I’m from.” The next song is the synth heavy, instantly catchy “Complicated”. It’s not that complex, lyrically or sonicalically, but the simplicity is part of the charm with this one. You could even argue that the directness plays into the subject matter of the song of Mac trying to minimize the complications that are in his life. “Blue World” then brings the project to one of the two traditional rap songs on the project. Produced by one half of the electronic duo Disclosure, the song flips a 1950s sample into an upbeat, electronic banger about both the negatives and positives of living life with his level of benefits and hindrances. It’s a perfect song on here to play as an out-of-the-context single, but the next song is the agonizing debut single from the record, “Good News”. “Good News” is the song that introduced us to this project, and boy was it an emotional rollercoaster hearing it for the first time. The song is full of plucking guitars and little bass embellishments that help play into the meandering thoughts Mac provides on the track. He sounds in a crestfallen state of peace while recording this track, which is both depressing and freeing considering the lyrics are about being depressed and needing some good news to get through the day. And just like every other song on here, there was one specific part that breaks me down everytime. When the song transitions into the third verse and he starts it off saying, “There’s a whole lot more for me waiting on the other side. I’m always wondering if it feels like summer,” it just destroys every time. This track was one that no matter if you were a big fan of his previous work or not, it left everyone in tears. The next song, “I Can See”, is one song that Jon barely had any part in but it still blew him away enough to put it on here. As he describes a few songs on the record, he talks about this song by saying “This is good by anyone’s standards, in any genre, this human being is expressing themselves well,” and that holds after listening to it as well. It continues the themes of expressing how his problems have affected others from both the positive and negative sides. The first verse is the positive side about wanting to change for the better, while the second verse is where the drugs take their hold over him. This theme is especially evident, and also saddening, considering Ariana has backing vocals on the track, and it’s rumoured that a big reason their relationship ended is because of Mac’s drug addiction. “Everybody” is where the shift in the album comes, and not just because this is a cover of Arthur Lee’s 1972 track “Everybody’s Gotta Live”, but because Mac delves further into his singer-songwriter vibe with this half of the album. It starts out with what will likely be one of people’s favorite, or least favorite parts of the album. All it consists of is Mac’s barebones singing over a minimal piano, but whether or not his woozy, emotive vocal performance connects with the listener is a good indicator of if this album’s for you or not. The rest of the song sounds straight out of a live performance with a drum and piano led performance and some subtle bass additions from Mac himself. Although it’s a cover, this song shows Mac succeeding in a new style that he will improve on himself later in the tracklist with “Hand Me Downs”. “Hand Me Downs” is my personal favorite track on the project. It continues the same live band feel, but this time is led by drums and guitar instead of piano. There’s something so peaceful about this song every time something new comes in. The first strum of guitar, the first time Mac starts singing, and the first time Baro Sura comes in all contribute to this level of ultimate peace that the song gives off. I wish I knew enough about music theory to describe why it makes the listener feel this way, but hopefully Dissect talks about it when their review season eventually comes out. For now though, this song just pushes all the right buttons for a relaxing, but uplifting tune. Even the subject matter is still super personal for Mac, but is relatable enough for everyone to relate it to their own lives. Between these two songs is “Woods”, another synth heavy, drum led track about a broken relationship. He tells a simple, but moving story by comparing moving on from his previous relationship to the old saying of being “out of the woods”. His uplifting, but still deeply introspective story comes through over the almost five minute long song that transitions perfectly into “Hand Me Downs”. Following that track is a personal anecdote of Mac taking accountability for his life called “That’s On Me”. It has the classic waltz three-step to it in the Jon Brion played piano that helps give the track an extra layer of flavor. The track consists of Mac realizing where he is with his addiction and that no matter what it does to him, he’ll try to maintain his friendships. It’s yet another song that couldn’t fit anywhere in Mac’s discography besides here due to how much it sounds like a singer-songwriter song. “Hands” is the most traditional rap song on here with some gigantic, orchestral production that whirles it’s way around the speakers. But even though it’s as close to a traditional rap song as Circles has, it still contains multiple types of organs and a bunch of bells as extra layering. With all these different sounds, it almost seems out of place listening to the album, but the subject matter helps tie it in with the rest of the project. He’s once again ruminating on his own personal problems that is emphasized by his addiction, but also problems that most people can relate to. The penultimate track, “Surf”, then shows Mac trying to be objective about his relationship with his audience. The chorus on here is one of the many references to water and swimming on this project, once again connecting it to his previous album. The biggest sonic change for this song is a fuzzed out guitar that’s so fuzzy it barely sounds like a guitar that Jon plays throughout the track. I’m sure it’s more accurately represented from something else, but even from first listen, it immediately brought me back to Redbone’s bombastic outro. “Once a Day” closes out the album perfectly with a washy keyboard led ballad. Fans had actually heard this song before from the Celebration of Life concert held in Mac’s honor that was closed out with Mac playing a solo piano version of this track. It’s a fairly straightforward piano ballad, but his performance and lyrics sell it yet again. All the lines about depression and coping are once again vague enough for it to personally relate to every single listener, but also specific enough for everyone to know where Mac was coming from with the track. It also creates a musical perfect loop with the first track, as Dissect recently pointed out. The first track resolves the harmonic cliffhanger that the album ends on (and u/turangalila_, if you want to share the technical details for why this resolves, I’m sure there’s a few of us that would love to read it). There’s no other track on here that could close out this gorgeous, tragic project. Circles is unlike anything Mac has ever released, and will ever release. It’s not only Mac coming full circle with his artistic evolution, but him becoming at peace with his problems. These songs just ooze this feeling of being at peace with life, but unfortunately, life's a circle. While he appeared to be at peace at this point in time, he knew that he would once again fall back into the cycle of a debilitating problem and having to fix it. He finally figured out the circle that his life revolved around and was ready to fight whatever life threw at him, but he never got the chance. Just hearing someone who had struggled this much with drugs and addiction most of his life in this state of mind immediately makes it something special, but the musicality and songwriting backs up everything that he had going for. Even from the first couple listens, I knew that this would be the soundtrack to hopefully finding some peace in 2020. And while the year obviously took a big turn from where I thought, this album helped myself and many others to find moments of solace during this life-altering time period. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Discussion Questions:

Talking about the previous trading session, the sterling came under selling pressure and tested an intraday low of 1.3532 level as coronavirus cases in the UK continued to record new highs on the daily basis even after entering into the severe lockdown restrictions. The nation registered 62,332 cases on Wednesday, the highest since the pandemic began. Additionally, broad-based strength in the greenback weighed on the demand of the pair. On an economic docket, US Unemployment claims came at 787k much better than the market anticipation of 798k and US ISM Services PMI arrived at 57.2 vs 54.5 forecasted. After skyrocketing more than 150 pips on Thursday, GBPUSD bulls are on the backfoot in Asian hours amidst broad-based strength in the greenback. As of now, the cable is trading 0.09% lower at 1.3131. Talking about the previous trading session, initially, the pair came under selling pressure and tested the intraday low of 1.2928 after the BOE announced its monetary policy decision. The apex institute added another 150 billion pounds to its Asset Purchase Facility. Also, BOE Gov Bailey made a statement that they are working on negative interest rates. However, the pair erased all of its intraday losses as investors were betting on the victory of Democrat Joe Biden, which increased the likelihood of a large coronavirus relief package in America. Cdn. Existing Home Sales (Aug. 2020) — The Heat is On

Canadian existing home sales rose 6.2% in seasonally-adjusted terms in August (+33.5% y/y), the highest level on record by that measure. Keep in mind that the market was effectively shut down through the (normally very active) spring season, so pent-up demand is still at work (and possibly distorted a bit by the seasonal factor). Year-to-date, raw sales are now a touch higher than a year ago, giving a cleaner picture of what is truly going on. That is, sales have quickly filled in most of the hole left during the COVID-related lockdowns earlier in the year. That said, there might be some pent-up demand still to satisfy as the level of sales was notably stronger heading into the pandemic than it was in early-2019. If we assume the new run-rate will settle somewhere in between, then it looks like we’ve just about caught up on a national basis.
New listings also jumped again in August, rising 10.6% in the month. That marks the first time since the market re-opened that listings outpaced sales, which pulled the national sales-to-new listings ratio down a few notches to 69.4%. That still reflects the tightest market in 15 years or so. Indeed, the months’ of inventory on the market hit a record-low 2.6 in August. If you’re left thinking, “this sounds like a recipe for higher prices”, you are correct. The average transactions price jumped 18.5% y/y in August (to a record high), while the MLS HPI accelerated to 9.4% y/y.
One change in August is that some regional disparity is starting to show again, after all markets were rebounding in unison in recent months. Month-over-month, sales were driven by gains in Toronto and surrounding markets, as well as VancouveVictoria, but others like Calgary and Regina have ebbed. And, while price growth is well into double digits in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa (the latter now 20% y/y), prices in Calgary are still down from a year ago. We suspect this regional split will re-establish itself as the dust settles.
The Bottom Line: The Canadian housing market has come back stronger than even the most hardened bulls imagined, and policymakers seem willing to let it run. That said, it’s looking like pent-up demand is just about running its course, and we’ll see where underlying sales settle. Some areas of the country will probably stay quite hot. Others, not.
Hi all, hope you’re doing well! Looking for some direction/guidance about PCE/HCE. While I don’t have any “physical” patient care experience, I do believe I may have some substantial direct, “hands-on” experience. I worked at a residential treatment facility and counseled adolescents struggling with substance use and mental health disorders for 3 years. I am a certified alcohol and drug counselor with ~2,500 clinical contact hours (direct therapy time) and ~3,500 clinical hours (treatment planning, patient charting, etc.). Examples of some of my job responsibilities: - conducting clinical assessments - interviewing patient and recording patient history (HPI, PMHx, FHx, SHx, etc.) - diagnosing substance use disorders using DSM-5 - designing and implementing individualized treatment plans - providing individual and group counseling - entering confidential information in our EHR system - measuring progress and writing LOS reports - administering medications (I was a Certified Medication Aide at the time as well) I know my best bet is reaching out to schools and asking them if my experience would count as PCE or HCE, but I’d appreciate hearing what you all think as well. I’ve heard mixed reviews about mental health experience as PCE. Thanks so much for your help!!!
(Spoilers TWOW) GRRM's ADWD/TWOW Writing Timeline (It Has Tables. You Love Tables)
Intro
I'm a writer. I enjoy the craft of writing (sometimes). As you probably well know at this point, one of my pastimes is looking at the ways that GRRM writes ASOIAF. I find it fascinating, because, as a #writer, it's good to look at how other writers do it. Given that GRRM is my favorite contemporary author - and an author I take inspiration from - I wanted to chart out whenabouts GRRM wrote individual chapters from A Dance with Dragons and The Winds of Winter. Fortunately, GRRM's notablog, his website, the So Spake Martin Archive and other internet sites provide a wealth of insight. Given that we now have ADWD in published form and several TWOW sample chapters, we can look back and see GRRM's progress in writing ADWD and to a lesser extent sign-posts for where he was at in writing TWOW. Just a few notes before we dive in:
GRRM used to say "I'm writing Dany, Bran or Jon chapters" without providing insight as to what chapters he was writing. I didn't include many of those, because it's hard to pinpoint which chapters he was writing -- unless I found other context clues.
For TWOW, GRRM has sometimes said things like "Areo Hotah will return as a POV" or "you'll find out more about Asshai in Melisandre's chapters." I didn't include these either, because, while my suspicion is that he's written Areo Hotah and Melisandre chapters, there's not enough information to go on to indicate when he wrote these chapters.
A lot of the early ADWD material was written during the timeline for AFFC. I only have vaguer information when these were written.
I try to indicate speculation and theories where it seems appropriate. But please feel free to disagree and provide more insight!
After he finished ADWD, GRRM indicated that the first version of Daenerys IX was written in 2001. However, the first recorded version of the chapter came about in 2003.
GRRM thinks this is Jon's 2nd chapter in 2003. But he ended up going back to Jon's chapters in 2006 and expanding them out, adding in Jon II and making this chapter into two chapters.
GRRM reported having an Ironborn chapter done for ADWD from the POV of Asha. Later, he reads "The Wayward Bride" at Boskone 2007. Thanks to mithras_stoneborn for the link.
GRRM states that he is rewriting Jon's first five ADWD chapters that were leftover from AFFC. My suspicion is that GRRM might be wrong here and only has 4 Jon chapters complete given that he was working Jon III-IV in 2003. Tonally, I think there's a bit of a change between Jon IV and Jon V with Stannis' departure from Castle Black, but that's speculation on my part.
GRRM was writing about a "marriage" in ADWD. There are three major marriages in ADWD: Dany to Hizdahr, Jeyne Poole to Ramsay (yeesh) and Alys Karstark to Sigorn. I think the Alys/Sigorn wedding was written in the 2009-2011 timeframe as GRRM reported writing lots of Jon chapters then. So, I don't think it's that. It could be either a Dany or Theon chapter. My money's on Dany VII given that his mind is full of Dany, Jon and Q (Quentyn) thoughts just a week prior to writing this notablog post. Given that Quentyn shows up just before Dany's wedding in Dany VII, I think it's Dany's seventh chapter -- a chapter that GRRM rewrote three times.
GRRM indicates in a comment that he abandoned an earlier version of Tyrion VI where he meets the Shrouded Lord -- indicates he has at least Tyrion I-V in some completed form
GRRM indicates he wrote a Tyrion chapter, and then rewrote it from a different POV. Given that he's writing Tyrion chapters in and around Volantis, this is almost certainly "The Lost Lord."
In an earlier blog entry in January 2008, GRRM indicated that he was writing a Dany and Bran chapter. This is more guesswork than most of the other entries, but my suspicion is that Bran III is the chapter that GRRM took 6 years to write given its complexities and subject matter
GRRM wrote portions of these chapters "years ago" and later decided to cut Sansa to TWOW. As for the Arya chapter being "Mercy", the hint is that it was largely written years ago. GRRM later says that he and his editor cut "Mercy" from ADWD in 2009. But then in 2014, GRRM indicates that it was cut from ADWD at the last minute. My guess is that after 2009, GRRM decided he wanted the chapter in ADWD before finally deciding that it belonged in TWOW.
GRRM talks about writing a chapter from a "new POV" -- one that he's previously hinted at. My suspicion is that this is Quentyn II as GRRM will finish Quentyn III (The Spurned Suitor) in 2010 and had hinted at his new POV being set in Volantis back in 2006. Additionally, I don't think it's JonCon as I think "The Griffin Reborn" was written in close proximity to Arianne's two TWOW chapters in early 2010 as events from the Griffin Reborn inform Arianne's two chapters.
It's a female POV with two chapters. It's either Arya or Cersei, and GRRM comments about Arya being in ADWD and "Mercy" being cut to TWOW. Additionally, one month later, GRRM stated that there were two Arya/two Cersei chapters in ADWD
"Pat's died a quick death" refers to Patrick St. Denis from "Pat's Fantasy Hotlist" who bet GRRM that the Cowboys would do better than the Giants in 2010. Pat won in 2010, and to satisfy the bet, GRRM wrote Pat into ADWD as Ser Patrek of King's Mountain. He dies in Jon's final ADWD chapter. However, and this is where it gets confusing, GRRM's editor Anne Groell indicated that Jon XIII was one of the last ADWD chapters she read in 2011. Additionally, from the manuscript sample of ADWD, there are missing chapters before Daenerys X with Jon XIII as among the missing the chapters. So, perhaps, this is GRRM drafting the chapter before finalizing it in 2011.

I'm convinced by feldman10's exposition of who "Fred" is from this comment. Given that it's Theon's penultimate chapter, it's "A Ghost in Winterfell." He also finished "The Turncloak" a week before this and has one chapter to go.
"Yogi" is a Meereenese Knot POV whose arc is complete. Given that he was working on Quentyn in July and often writes POV chapters one after the other before switching to a different POV, it's probably Quentyn's final chapter here.
ADWD
The King's Prize (Asha II), Theon (Theon VII), Jon XIII
It's snowing on Jon Snow and a pair of krakens (Theon and Asha). Given that GRRM still needed to finish a final Theon chapter back in July and the next entry, my suspicion is that GRRM wrote Asha's final two ADWD chapters late in the process and finished Theon's ADWD chapters in December 2010. As for Jon Snow, his final ADWD occurs with the snow falling and would line up with our earlier discussion about when Anne Groell read Jon's last ADWD chapter.
Theon's 1st TWOW chapter was originally going to be in ADWD and features snow swirling when the door is opened to his cell in the watchtower he's chained to. On a limb, but I think "Theon" from ADWD was finished in December 2010 with GRRM plunging on ahead with the idea of having the Battle of Ice in the book. I think shortly after he finished this Theon chapter, he decided to cut the Battle of Ice to TWOW -- a decision he made on his own.
At least one of the krakens referenced is Victarion as a reference is made to "monkeys" in the blog post. So, it could be that GRRM revised "The Iron Suitor", but given that George is less than a month out from finishing ADWD and had "The Iron Suitor" done a year before and given that there's a reference to Victarion hearing monkeys chattering in a dead Ghiscari city in Victarion's 2nd ADWD chapter, I think it's Vic's 2nd chapter. As for the 2nd Ironborn POV that GRRM had to write from, that I'm less certain of. GRRM seemed to be in the thick of Meereenese Knot writing at the time. Perhaps it's another Victarion chapter that was subsequently cut to TWOW. But I submit the possibility that it could be a Theon or Asha chapter. Or maybe it's a Damphair chapter. GRRM had cut "The Forsaken" to TWOW back in July 2010, but the end of Victarion's final ADWD chapter and Moqorro's reading of the Valyrian glyphs at the end of Victarion's chapter corresponds to events from "The Forsaken" or maybe even the next Damphair chapter, especially as GRRM hints at a kraken swarming up from the depths -- something that's been theorized to be coming in Damphair's 2nd TWOW chapter.
ADWD
Jon XI-XIII, Tyrion XII, The Sacrifice (Asha III), Theon (Theon VII)
GRRM hadn't submitted these chapters to Random House by early April 2011. However, they were completed and submitted by April 27, 2011 as that was the date that GRRM completed all writing for ADWD.
According to the Cushing Library, GRRM cut 3 chapters from ADWD to TWOW very late in the process. Given that GRRM removed the Battle of Ice first and then the Battle of Fire at the urging of his editors, my guess is that these are 3 Meereenese POVs. Given that Tyrion I and Victarion I were read by GRRM at convention appearances in early 2012 (Just a few months after he resumed writing for TWOW), and that in February 2013, GRRM read Barristan I and II and reportedly said that these chapters were "new to you, not to him", I'm going to go out on a limb and say that one of these Barristan chapters was among the three that GRRM cut from ADWD to TWOW.
GRRM was asked what character he was writing most recently, and he responded with "Arya." Given that "Mercy" was completed years before, it's almost certainly a different Arya chapter.
GRRM read TWOW, Tyrion II in August 2013 and had not submitted it either with ADWD or with the 168 page manuscript partial that Anne Groell read in February 2013.
In a screengrab from John Oliver's Last Night Tonight, GRRM's computer showed a partial for an Asha TWOW chapter set at the outbreak of the Battle of Ice.
GRRM was revising a Theon TWOW chapter a few days before January 2, 2016. As he released the Theon I sample chapter 4 years prior, it is almost certainly a different Theon chapter.
GRRM reveals that he was working on Cersei before he came to Balticon in May 2016.
Analysis
I'll bullet-point some thoughts:
GRRM writes batches of chapters from one POV before switching. You can see that at work above.
2010-2011 was an especially productive time in writing ADWD and chapters that were later cut to TWOW. A lot of this results from GRRM cutting the Meereenese Knot via the introduction of Barristan as a POV chapter.
It's interesting that GRRM expanded his POV roster with each year. Quentyn was the only planned new POV. But then in 2007, he added Jon Connington. In 2008, Melisandre. In 2010, Barristan Selmy.
GRRM has become a lot more close-mouthed regarding his progress on TWOW post-writing of ADWD. That is entirely understandable given the amount of vitriol thrown at him while writing ADWD.
Finally, my favorite little tidbit: GRRM seems to be most productive between the months of January and August. Now why is that? Hm. Is it maybe because that's when the NFL is not in season? (It should be noted for fairness sake that GRRM wrote chapters during the NFL season, but they seem a bit more sparse than those written outside of the season.)
Conclusion
So, that's a lot of information, but I hope this maybe serves as a resource for some and inspiration to other writers out there. My intent in doing this is not to criticize GRRM for his writing style or how fast/slow the books take to write. It's entirely to look back at the process and gauge GRRM in his own words about writing, looking a little at the history of writing ADWD and TWOW and hopefully provide some enjoyment as we wait for Fire and Blood, Volume One and of course, The Winds of Winter. After witnessing a volatile Wednesday, GBPUSD is trading flat with mild positive bias as investors refrain from placing any aggressive bets amidst escalation in Sino-US tensions. PM Boris Johnson commented that significant divergences remain between both the parties on future trade relationships, thereby raising the chances that there will be no deal by the end of the year. However, the pair managed to erase all intraday losses owing to the weakness in the US dollar after the release of downbeat macro-economic statistics from the American economy. The US Existing Home Sales came at 4.72M, missing the market expectations of 4.77M, and monthly HPI came at -0.3% vs 0.3%. Subsequently, the pair ended the trading session at 1.2731, with marginal gains of 0.02%. Going forward, investors will wait for UK MPC Member Haskel speech, US Unemployment Claims, and monthly CB Leading Index for intraday trading opportunities. I just found the novel and read every volume in 5 days.
Few years ago i watched the 1st episode this series anime, 4 episodes later i dropped it because its so generic with OP mc and that annoying albedo. Fast forward to this year, 2nd season announced, everyone so hpyed up and i was like "oh man, why is this crap getting 2nd season?". Ok fine, i will at least try the manga. I read 33 chapters in one sitting. IT WAS GREAT! I could't wait no more, i want to know about Sebas's story so bad i continued with reading the novel started when sebas's found tsuare. Now i finished reading and ended up ordering hard copies from amazon(lul). Now i understand what everyone hyped about. I liked every single chapters except when its Albedo's or, weirdly, Ainz' PoV. My fav character is brain. I hope he will, at the end, reach the pinnacle of human. 2nd fav char is Jircniv. You can bet my ass when Ainz's death news spread and everyone want a piece of the Kingdom he won't do anything. Too scared and broken to revolt. My least liked char is albedo, man she is still annoying in novel, manga or anime. Thank you for this great novel. Any news for next volume released?
It’s been one of those long, five-week development cycles, but it’s finally time for your monthly MAME fix. There’s been a lot of touched in this release, with improvements in a number of areas. But before we get to the improvements, we have an embarrassing admission to make: the game added in 0.185 as Acchi Muite Hoi is actually Pata Pata Panic, and the sound ROM mapping was incorrect, making the game unplayable. That’s all sorted out now though, thanks to occasional contributor k2. New working arcade games include Epos Revenger ’84, Jockey Club II, Hashire Patrol Car, the Mega Play version of Gunstar Heroes, and the much-awaited Taito Classic Space Cyclone. Improvements to emulation make Legionnaire and Heated Barrel fully playable at long last, and Megatouch XL 6000 is working in this release. There are also plenty of new versions of supported games, including a world release of the puzzle game Star Sweep, the Taito licensed version of Bagman, the Japanese release of Top Landing, the Italian release of Penky, and European bootlegs of Amidar and Phoenix. We’ve got some exciting improvements to supported arcade games this month, too. Sound effects for Universal’s Cheeky Mouse are now supported, and the analog section of the melody synthesiser used in Zaccaria’s Jack Rabbit and Money Money has been implemented, although it’s still missing the cassa (bass drum) sound at the moment. We need schematics and quality PCB photos to add support for analog sound synthesis in more games, so if you find any we’d really appreciate if you could send them our way. New working home/handheld games include Jungle Soft Zone 60, Gradius, Lone ranger, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Top Gun, and the Game & Watch titles Mario’s Cement Factory, Boxing, Donkey Kong II and Mickey & Donald. The CoCo Games master cartridge is supported as a CoCo slot device, support for the French Minitel 2 terminal has been added (thanks to Jean-François Del Nero), and there’s some more progress on the InterPro systems from Patrick Mackinlay. Peripherals for the TI-99 home computer family have been overhauled, making the PEB a slot device that plugs into the I/O port – this will require changes to your configuration if you use this family of computers. Finally, the -listroms verb supports device sets (e.g. mpu401 or m68705p3), -listroms, -verifyroms and -listxml support multiple patterns on the command line, -verifyroms is much faster when a small number of sets are specified, and the romcmp tool has seen several improvements. Hello again my friends. I have been discussing the nature of thought, inspiration and synchronicity, I feel ive found a thread worth pulling. The idea of the Logos and the Gnostic perspective has been pushing itself into my awareness more and more, and in a myriad of ways. The Mandela effect has been another interweaving thing weather or not you believe it is an actual change in reality or a change in memory the point is the Concepts ideas,symbols,information that are highlighted through it. Synchronistically during my delving into the details of the ME and categorizing and philosophizing on the changes( an example of which is ET PHONE HOME and ET HOME PHONE. The change being the order of the 2 words. So I took that clue and squished the words together and see what came of it. I got homophone and phoneme. Not quite the exact spelling but as is the nature of this investigation the lessons are multilayered and redundant in what they teach. The words are composed of Phonemes and are also Homophones. And this is another clue in delving deeper into the effect as homophones and phonemes are intrical to the breakdown. The lesson here is to play with words, use your intuition and research to create a more metaphorical understanding of things. Which is also the same image which brought on Philip K dick's Exegesis and is on the front cover and every other chapter in the book. After the post Axana made I was inundated with the shape, as well as metaphors involving the myriad ways at which it showed itself. It almost feels like a symbol is sentient and the level of its sentience/energy is based on attention, so symbols propagate themselves over time and take on many different meanings and associations but the symbol lives on. https://imgur.com/OJJNMRM This was the first Manifested Mandorlas. The same day of reading Axanas Post. When I saw this shadow on the seat in my car after reading and researching the shape all day I was hit with a rush of.... energy/dopemine/truth. The shape and the way it came to exist in this state brought upon a type of Gnosis a series of metaphors and understandings which I later gave words too. The understanding came before the ability to transmit it. And could never be truly transmitted as a persons personal context is like noise to the signal. So I was headed home from work and I reached for my bottle of water and jarred it suddenly causing me to lurch to stop it from spilling and instantly my attention was brought to the shape. I looked around and sussed out the thing casting the shadow was a little dangley suction cup thing on the front windshield. It was a circle but there were 2 sources of light in the form of streetlights, I (in the car)was in between both of them and each cast a separate shadow the overlap appears darker. Because of the additive effect of shadow. Perspective and timing is key here as if I had not almost spilled my water I may not have looked at the seat, or perhaps I was parked in a place where I could not witness the shadow. If one of the lights had been out or they hadn't been arranged parallel. The shape would not be witnessed. I thought about perspective and how the eyes experience the Mandorla. Try this, close one eye and look forward, you see that your vision encompasses a circle with the edges or the periphery being less focused and less colorful, not as much detail. Now if you move your eye to the left as far as possible you now see another circle of sight, the overlap of these two circles are the vesica pices, or the Mandorla which is in itself a fractal recursive eye. This mandorla appears again simply with both eyes open and looking forward. The 2 circles of sight converge on what your attention is locked onto. The mandorla is the focus of your attention the fact you have two eyes allows you to more accurately discern depth. Metaphorically you could say is with an idea in order to discern the deeper parts you need too view it from at least 2 opposing perspectives. Or the Intuitive suppressing the Logical. Which metaphorically felt like a lot of what my research was being undertaken. Just pulling on the threads that Felt right. So on the day of the eclipse I climbed a little mountain near our house about 20 mins away. I brought some incense and was prepared to meditate and send out some positive vibes. And realize where my thoughts had taken me. I see a small circle in the bottom right and immediately know what it is and simultaneously feel that rush of being watched by someone. Perhaps ALLone Its a freaking Flower of life! That alone seems a bit like magic, but I go to the website and find out it is an Etsy store that ended in 2015 and only had sold 40 things in the history of its existence. So out of the 40 people who bought something from her 1 person came to this park and planted that sticker on a path that I would eventually go down. On her etsy is a link to her Instagram. Pink lunita. Lunita is the moon. Pink Moon designs. I go to their page and the first thing is a picture of a sunflower eclipse. So these metaphors and symbols are communicating with me weather or not there is a consciousness sending a message out a message is being received I think symbol,number,metaphor,archetypes are facets of a type of consciousness. I suppose if the collective consciousness were to say I this would be that I The LOGOS the WORD. It seems like inspiration and drive to create has to have some facet of the totallum creator. The divine spark if you will. That perhaps information,data,thought-forms, want to exist and they can only exist through consciousness perceiving them. So when you create a song or a story you might be a voice of the ALL reaching out. Where each person takes in the words of that song and pulls something from the experience different from anyone else. That maybe each creative output has a message for each person hidden within it. I Accidentally clicked on 2:30.... Of course the music flares up and there is that shape the Vesica Pices, Mandorla. And of course from there we look at Logos that contain this image. Again you may see how tightly its woven together. I love his Metaphor utilizing lemmings. As if you are a entity constantly moving forward and being pushed pulled and manipulated by your environment to get to the goal. Like in the game lemmings the Player or god in the case (master of the reality) can place obstacles in the path of these lemmings. You cant make the lemmings do things directly but have to shape the environment so that the lemming will perform the tasks required to get ALL of the lemmings to the goal. A lemming is just programmed..... “move forward.” But a conscious mind with free will has a more complex program running, 1000's of programs and IF-THEN statements. If this happens than I react this way etc... Think about that urge you may get to look at the clock and boom you see 11:11 or something. These urges may exist outside yourself, that same feeling of impulse and urges can come out in an argument. Where you lose control and say something that was hurtful. That poke to say the negative thing then pokes the person who you are arguing with and then either they succumb to the instinctual urge to continue fighting or they do not succumb and instead let it flow like water over them, thus diminishing the situation. Note that this instinctual urge to fight/debate/argue/drama. Comes from the programming of television/movies and culture. If you are not exposed to a particular show or “Indoctrination” then you can still be programmed via second hand culture. Attention is the food of that which is attended. If food is what is required for continued existence. The forgetting of a thing by all conscious minds would be that things death. There is a reason for the ease of absorption of millions of unique and novel human creations. The cellphone in you pocket a energy vampire and the energy is attention, that feeling of not feeling the weight in your pocket and frantically say “Wheres my phone!” patting all of your pockets down, feeling like a mother in a mall whose lost their child. Then you realize its in my other hand..... I think of the old gods and Ancient Pagan rituals and sacrifices. The idea of worship Can be broken down as Attention. Attention infused with emotion is the goal of..... Gods, Ideas, People. Let me see if I can elucidate.... Attention by-itself is not dualistic, the intake of data has no good/bad alignment. Its the interpretation of the data that gives it potential charge. The charges of attention Fear and Love. This also has a metaphor in time and thoughts about the past and future. The forms of Fear Attention on the past is Regret. Future fear attention is Worry. When we place our attention in the past or future with fear we are reinforcing that fear Alignment in everything else. Forms of attention based more on love are Nostalgia/Reminiscence in relation to the past, and Hope and positive thinking in relation to the future. Your thoughts and conclusions you come to about events in the past determine future decisions. Just as decisions you make now affect the future possibilities Your attention on the past and future give a sort of energy too it, that over time you will get better at broadcasting and receiving. So doesn't it make sense that My future self would be able to send back synchronicities through my experiences to teach me and guide me to make the decisions that would result in his(future me)'s existence. In essence we can time travel backwards in time. Bring up a memory and ruminate and regret a decision. And in doing so we alter the original perception of the experience. The more we dredge up the past in regret the stronger it gets. Just as if you can bring up a happy moment n the past and dwell on that nostalgia. Positively reinforcing the emotions and elements connected too it. But doing this can be an escape and when you return to the NOW “its not as good as it was back then” you hear them say. Back in my day..... etc..... What does everyone want? What do gods want? They want/ need your attention. Everything that isn't “REAL” is instead an abstract concept or archetypal force. Without a consciousness to witness it and marvel that it does exist than it cannot exist. Similar to the “If a tree falls in the woods, does it make a sound” the answer is yes, there is a sound because sound is vibration and is detectable movement would denote sound, even if you can hear it. What does a fleas footsteps sound like? But as far as something like an abstract concept it does not exist, unless it is witnessed by the EYES of the I's.
